Lab Engineer

CTG is assisting one of its premiere clients in staffing a Lab Engineer for Redmond, WA.This Lab Engineer will be managing state-of-the-art labs with multiple servers and needs to be ready/able to tackle hands-on support of hardware. If this sounds like an exciting opportunity, please keep reading!Position: Lab EngineerLocation: Redmond, WADuration: 1yr contract with possible extensionsOverview We’re looking for a passionate, motivated & skilled individual to help install, upgrade and maintain IBM hardware in various labs. This person will manage the hardware in the labs and will work with System Engineers to facilitate testing and validation of the various environments. Lab duties will include new hardware and software build-outs, imaging and product installs. Operations work will involve documenting configuration, installations and test/validation results. Job Description This individual will manage a few lab environments. Scope is around 20 servers in around 5 labs. Individual needs to have good knowledge of server hardware technologies, storage hardware and various software environments including Windows 2003, SQL 2005 and other Microsoft software. Servers are usually pre-GA hardware so position will require a lot of hands-on support of hardware. Familiarity of rack mount high end servers is needed. Daily responsibility will include managing server build/rebuild, operating system installation, systems and network configuration, managing inventory and scheduling for engineers, and executing test routines. Knowledge of latest technology environments like Windows server 2008, SQL server 2008, Hyper-V, performance measurement and tuning is a plus. Skills Strong knowledge of hardware maintenance and troubleshooting experience is required Strong knowledge of the Windows OS family is required Complex hardware installation and maintenance Knowledge of hardware/software setup and configuration Strong problem solving skills Strong written and oral communication skills required to work with engineers from various product groups Must be a strong team player and committed to the success of the group Strong organizational skills including physical inventory, documentation, and space management Hardware includes 32-bit and 64-bit, Intel and AMD server class machines, SAN/DAS storage Understanding of basic scripting in order to complete daily lab tasks is preferred Ability to lift up to 50 pounds may be requiredIf interested in this opportunity, please respond with a soft copy of your resume for review, your availability to interview/start a new position and your compensation requirements (W2, direct employment only).Thanks for your consideration!
