MS SQL Server DBA

Duties/Responsibilities:

·         Administer and control the activities related to data planning and development and the establishment of policies and procedures pertaining to its management, security, maintenance and utilization. 

·         Apply comprehensive knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures of particular field of specialization in order to complete difficult assignments.  Assignments are broad in nature, complex, and usually requiring originality and ingenuity. 

·         Work independently and may train lower level personnel in technical complexities of assigned work.

·         Work activities include:

o       Setting and monitoring database standards

o       Performance tuning

o       Trouble shooting database errors and upgrades of the database software

o       Advise management on database concept and functional capabilities

o       Provide data design guidance to other technical personnel in support of computer systems development

o       Coordinate with systems administrators in support of database and database servers

o       Establish database license management tools and coordinates with software license management personnel

o       Utilize specified development methods and approaches

o       Work within assigned area of responsibility, participating in work group efforts

o       Provide guidance to database and application administration support personnel

·         Will serve as a Database Administrator in the Server Operations Database Sever/Application Administration branch. 

·         The technology professional will be expected to perform the following tasks and deliver services and products as outlined:

o       SQL Server 2005 Database Administration

o       Oracle Database Administration with experience with 8i, 9, and 10g.

o       An extensive knowledge Database Administration and Application Development. 

o       Possess advanced knowledge of database concept and functional capabilities utilizing specific development methods.

o       Possess advanced knowledge of data design in support of computer systems development.

o       Coordinates with systems administrators in support of database and database servers.

o       Establishes database license management tools and coordinates with software license management personnel.

o       Additional important skills include SQL, PL/SQL, and Unix Korn Shell to include relational database design and stored procedures. 

o       The ideal candidate will have an awareness of the architectural issues involved with deploying, supporting, and maintaining a database.  

o       Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) are required, as well as the ability to directly interface with teams, customers and management for requirements definition.

o       The temporary employee will work as a Database Administrator subject matter expert and will be expected to provide continued operation as well as enhancement of both existing and new Web applications.

o       Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a fast paced, changing environment is required.

 

Education and Experience

·       Must be a US Citizen or Naturalized Citizen

·       BS/BA degree in Computer Science or related field

·         Five (5) years database development and support experience, two (2) of which were in data warehouse or database administration
