Network Administrator/Desktop Support

The Network Administrator/ Desktop support provides support to internal customers for applications, and desktop hardware. This role also maintains servers and network hardware devices for a growing office with 40 PCs, 15 printers, and server room containing a Blackberry and Exchange Server.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

· E-mail administration for internal and external users.

· Provide active directory support

· Administration and maintenance of IP data network, including network switches, routers, firewalls, servers, desktop PC’s, handheld PDA’s, etc. as it exists.

· Ensuring that faulty hardware is diagnosed and replaced and working with the hardware vendor to maximize warranty.

· Troubleshooting switch/firewall problems, VPN troubleshooting, minor expansions (within configuration of the switches/hubs existing.

· Monitoring and maintenance of network servers, connected storage/backup devices. Proactively applying software updates, security patches, bug fixes, and driver updates. Routinely checking event logs and ensuring all are working properly.

· Monitor air conditioning system in computer room.

· Monitoring, maintenance, and troubleshooting Internet and WAN connections with ISP.

· Ensuring proper functionality, installing applications, peripherals, printers, troubleshooting problems, etc with Desktops and Laptop.

· Installing new printers and troubleshooting printer problems.

· Setting up new Blackberry PDA’s, ensuing proper data synchronization with the network to the extent supported by the software systems, troubleshooting problems.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

· Be the subject matter expert in all areas of desktop applications and hardware.

· Manage desktop patches to assure all desktops and laptops are up to date.

· Minor Graphics experience a PLUS – some ad hoc work with Graphics department will be required.

· Auto-CAD experience and knowledge strongly desired.

EDUCATION & TRAINING

· Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering, or equivalent years of experience

· Microsoft systems certification desired

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

· MS Exchange Server / Outlook/ BB Server

· Must be motivated self starter with desire to succeed with a team player attitude

· Very strong troubleshooting skills with 3+ years of experience working at a help desk

· Ability to work under stress with time critical deadlines and high expectations

· Requires excellent communication skills, analytical ability, strong judgment, and management skills.

· Excellent knowledge and experience (at least 3+ years) analyzing and resolving technical issues

· Working knowledge of Microsoft’s desktop technologies and configuring database client applications

· Knowledge of database and web server technology

· Working knowledge of various wireless LAN and IP products
