Novell Network Engineer

Apex Systems is currently looking for a Network Engineer for a 6 month contract-to-hire opportunity in Rockville, MD.

 

1. Install, maintain, & support Novell, Windows network operating system software.
2. Provide technical assistance to application development, data center personnel, and business areas.
3. Perform error determination and resolution on local and wide area networks

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


• Install & configure both Novell & Microsoft server OS
• Install & configure server Hardware
• Maintain network server Hardware & software Installing service packs & performing routine maintenance.
• Respond to server or network outages & stay on problem until resolved.
• Provide technical support to applications development & operations on Network & OS issues.
• Provide support for escalated problems from Help Desk as needed.
• Create Zen works application objects, & configure for delivery to users.
• Cisco Admin 5+ years
• Maintain system security including file system rights, object rights and telephone system
• Maintain perimeter security including Firewall configuration & remote access.
• Maintain corporate Anti-virus protection including both server & desktop as well as e-mail gateway.
• Troubleshoot Internet connectivity issues including Terminal server, e-mail and FTP.
• Maintain network infrastructure including configuration of Cisco switches, routers, and Firewall cabling & phone system.
• Perform research on new technologies and make recommendations to management.
• Support external network users (agencies, terminal services
• Maintain public IP addresses & DNS records.
• Maintain corporate e-mail system, planning for growth & expansion and performing routine system maintenance.
• Responsible for all aspects of voice system administration, including planning for expansion and software upgrades, new user setup, hunt groups, vectoring & ars maintenance.)
• Responsible for coordinating telecommunications contracts & maintaining detailed records.
• Create & maintain network documentation.

 SQL.  experience needed

 

EDUCATION/KNOWLEDGE

 

BS/BA in computer science or equivalent experience
Technical training in network operating systems
Novell Certified Engineer (N.C.E.) preferred
Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (M.C.S.E.) preferred

 

**I need to stress that this person will be the company’s only network engineer so being reliable, dependable, etc are understatements.  With that said this person must understand the responsibilities that go along with that.
