Pre-Sales Technical Leader

An individual contributor, the Pre-Sales Systems Engineer is responsible for technical leadership of complex, enterprise-wide, technical solutions for K-12 & Higher Ed accounts (such as Philadelphia school) as well as State & Local Government in Harrisburg. The SE is the primary Sun team member responsible for requirements gathering, physical/logical architecture reviews and recommending a viable solution based on the data. Must be able to create strong relationships with Sun's third party partners and provide solution reviews, ensuring the success Sun's customers and partners. The SE is a critical member of the WinTeam, working closely with multiple account teams and clients. Key responsibilities include: - Influencing the technical and architectural decisions at the highest levels within the account. - Working with the Account Manager, assist in the creation of new business opportunities for Sun. - Accountable for the quality of the overall technical solution. - Muat maintain broad technical, architectural, industry, and competitive knowledge. - Has expertise in one or more: Software, Systems (SPARC and x64), or Storage. Travel within territory will be required (Philadelphia/Harrisburg). The SE is a critical member of the WinTeam, working closely with multiple account teams and clients. Travel within territory (Philadelphia/Harrisburg) requiring car and valid driver's license required. Attend WIN Team meetings and Sun events as required. POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Broad enterprise-level technical knowledge including operating systems with emphasis on Solaris, system configuration including SPARC, AMD, and Intel based systems, network infrastructure, and storage. Experience participating in customer engagement planning and supporting sales efforts. Demonstrated ability to articulate alternatives in terms of cost, benefit, and risk where multiple solutions exist. Demonstrated ability to independently create and present highly technical business solutions in a manner appropriate for both technical end users and non-technical exeutive management. Excellent presentation skills are required. Position requires someone who is self-motivated and who has the ability to influence and accelerate the transition from transactional to strategic solution selling. ALSO DESIREABLE: Broad technical knowledge of Sun products and solutions and the overall IT environment. Knowledge of competitive environments and alternative technology solutions/approaches. Knowledge of Sun's middleware stack, Java Enterprise System, Systems and Storage, both Sun and competitive offerings,coupled with the ability to effectively position Sun's offering vs. competitive products will be strong pluses.
