SAN / Storage Engineer

 

Hands on experience with SAN fibre channel devices.  This extends to both Brocade and Cisco MDS devices, all firmware versions and blade models.  A very strong knowledge of command line administration of these devices and real-world experience implementing FC routing, DMM, Meta-SAN design, and experience with both LSAN and VSAN and extended fabrics.

 

Position Responsibilities

• Provide technical assistance to all Company internal/external customers during network outages.

• Have a familiarity with client base and the storage resources being utilized by all Company internal/external customers. Use this information to assist in resolving storage issues or trouble shooting storage outages or impairments.

• Perform weekly and monthly storage maintenance activity when required.

 

Requirements

• Must have a minimum of 5 years of Systems management and administration with an in-depth understanding of operating systems, including Microsoft Windows, Solaris, Unix/Linux – Certification(s) a plus.

• Must have a minimum of 5 years of diverse storage environment experience – Experience with EMC Clariion, McData, Netbackup & Brocade a plus.

• Must have detailed knowledge of RAID, SCSI, SAN, and NAS.

• Must know basic IP security structures regarding disk and tape storage.

• Extensive knowledge of data communication concepts and technologies is required.

• Strong customer service and communications skills (written and oral) are required.

• Strong storage problem isolation and resolutions skills required.

• Must have the ability to lead and direct vendors to assist them in their efforts.

• Strong interpersonal skills are a requirement.

• Adaptable and willing to learn new technologies.

• Excellent communications skills (written and oral) are required.

• Strong time management and organizational skill are required.

• Must have the ability to effectively work in a team environment, as well as independently.

 

Qualifications

Minimum of 5 Years experience in an enterprise IT environment.

Experience with DMX.

Experience with Brocade, Cisco, McData Fiber Channel switches and routers.

Experience with SAN applications such as Data Replication, Snap Shots, Virtualization Technology.

 Design and delivery of migration activities including Fabric to Fabric, Array to Array and Tier to Tier migrations.

Experience in different types of storage technologies including SAN, EMC, HDS, McDATA, Centera, Clariion and Cisco SAN Switches. Including EMC replication tools SRDF/S and SRDF/A.

Understanding of EMC array configuration or equivalent OEM and ability to assess array performance and layout in a Raid 5 or Raid 1 environment as it pertains to specific customer requests.
