Senior Business Intelligence Developer

UW Medicine Information Technology Services department is a shared services organization, which supports all of UW Medicine. UW Medicine is comprised of UW Medical Center, Harborview Medical Center, Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, UW School of Medicine, and UW Physicians Network. The IT Services organization is responsible for ongoing support and maintenance of the infrastructure and applications which support these institutions, along with the implementation of new services and applications that are used to support and further the mission of patient care, research and teaching.




UW Medicine Information Technology Services department has an outstanding opportunity for a Senior Business Intelligence Developer .

The Senior Business Intelligence Developer is responsible for the initial development and ongoing production support of an enterprise reporting and business intelligence system. Collaborates with the partners of UW Medicine to develop reporting applications, functions, processes, and solutions, to support analytical analysis for operational and strategic activities. Writes or works with applications that let allows users access and analyzes data in a data warehouse or data mart. Works with business requirement analysts to understand and prioritize user requirements. Develops end-user training and business-oriented meta data definitions.

Promotes disciplines of business intelligence lifecycles. Manages project modules where business intelligence and analytics are required. Develops and maintains functions for protocols for the implementation and ongoing maintenance of the Epic Enterprise Reporting System. Develops standardized report request mechanisms and work with system users to clarify requests. Develops procedures, documentation and standards for a three tier analytical decision support system. Creates reporting applications, reporting suites, and reporting objects to support core customer demands. Provides production support for the enterprise reporting system.

Manages the scheduling and distribution of business intelligence views, reports, and OLAP applications. Provides assistance and training to consumers of the reporting system. Promotes principles of data warehousing and the “Corporate Information Factory”. Provides leadership and expertise in extract, transformation, and load (ETL) disciplines through the use of various data movement tools. Partners with required IT staff to troubleshoot and resolve system problems, maintaining excellent system support.

Requirements:Bachelor’s Degree in related field or equivalent work experience. 3 years experience developing analytic software, such as, Cognos EP Series 7 and other business intelligence solutions. 2 years experience managing Cognos server administration software (i.e., Upfront, IWR, and PPES). 1 year experience analyzing healthcare data. 1 year experience coding with HTML, XML, and Java Script. Knowledge of health care billing and reimbursement practices. Ability to understand complex data models and schemas. Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts. Experience with SQL7 including query design and optimization. Demonstrated analytical ability to effectively perform all phases of projects. Self-motivated, detail-oriented and highly organized skill set. Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines.
