Senior Data Architect
1) GENERAL DESCRIPTION AND OVERALL OBJECTIVES
Assist with the management and planning of the Data Management Domain Has cross-functional responsibilities for data models, data infrastructure and data security at Juniper Networks, Inc. This position will assist in developing both the short term as well as long-term plan for technology, processes and standards in support of these areas. Document the existing and to be data management environment Assist with the setup, documentation and maintenance of a data management development process, which together with the application and technology architectures will ensure alignment of the total enterprise architecture with business strategy Has responsibility for developing and maintaining business naming standards and data dictionary Within programs determine how to best-fit varied (and sometimes opposing) business needs into a single architected solution Within programs define metrics tied to business goals to measure progress toward the enterprise data architecture • Quality Develop and maintain awareness of appropriate industry and vendor standards. Ensure the quality of the technical implementation through validation of the technical design and the completeness of documentation and procedures for the architecture, design, development, installation, and maintenance of the Data Infrastructure and projects Assist in the design of tests to demonstrate the performance, reliability, scalability and recoverability of production systems and commercial products Assist with the setup, documentation and maintenance of a process to ensure data quality throughout the IT organization, including data stewardship. Work across IT to implement the defined data quality process, balancing competing goals. Act as a resource / coach for data stewards. Assist the Data Stewards in establishing ongoing data quality auditing procedures
Responsibility for the data architecture, design and implementation of Enterprise Systems specifically with experience in some of: Supply Chain Management Customer and Partner Portals Customer Service and SFA Finance and Order Management Shipment, Transportation and Compliance Human Capital Management
Monitors emerging technology and assists in the investigation and adaptation of beneficial data technologies Research, evaluate, and identify emerging technologies for exploitation Recommends new and enhanced data technologies and supporting technologies. Ensuring components meet reliability, adaptability, scalability, supportability, visibility and integration requirements Provide support for technical implementation certification, migration, integration issues and vendor management for new technologies Provide direction on build vs. buy decisions pertaining to technology when managing the data architecture goals Ensure that the target data architecture is revisited and updated as technology develops
Data Security. Working with the CSO and/or other Security Team members Evaluate, define and advise the organization on information security methods as well as information security best practices Conduct threat / risk assessments to the data of Juniper Networks and recommend measures to mitigate identified risks Recommend and assist in implementation of policies and procedures to safeguard company and customers’ information and information systems including security requirements, backup and recovery, etc
2) KEY ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS AND DEPENDENCIES This position will be actively engaged in projects requiring interaction with Application and Infrastructure project teams at all phases of the project lifecycle Scope out both small and large scale data management programs. Must have experience with planning and estimation of programs Review business development plans and working with IT and Business managers, business analysts, project managers, and developers to oversee the development of appropriate data requirements, data architecture and data infrastructure Will review the project charter, design and deployment documents to ensure that data management is designed and implemented using proven practices according to infrastructure, operational and security best practices.
3) DECISION MAKING AUTHORITY Drive the development and execution of project level architectural review process to ensure consistency and compliance to architectural standards Develop Architectural Standards in conjunction with the Architectural Review Board Review and approve the project charter, business process, functional and technical design and deployment documents to ensure that projects are designed and implemented using proven practices and that the functional/process designs are complete, comprehensive and practical from a systems implementation perspective Conflict management

4) MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES Accountable for developing the corporate data management vision and championing efforts to reach that vision Provide technical leadership, direction and expertise to peers, leadership and associates on the overall data management architecture as it relates to the IT and business strategies Data Technical Review Board Member
- Represent Data Architecture, Data Modeling concerns on the Technical Review committee, approving major IT development projects
- Drive the definition of architectural standards for enterprise data and data interfaces. Define a process for granting exceptions to the standards
- Assist in the development of an Enterprise Logical Data Model
- Champion the use of components from the Enterprise data model by application models
- Communicate standard entity and attribute definitions for understanding and reuse throughout the corporation
- Champion and sponsor the development of corporate data dictionary and metadata.
- Provides technical guidance to the project team for activities related to the definition, design, construction, testing, performance tuning and certification of databases Work with the other IT groups, will develop and maintain a data management roadmap that provides reduced overall complexity and increased cost efficiency while maintaining security and privacy. This roadmap should allow for re-usability and adaptability as well as consistent and cost effective operational management Communicate and advocate to the business and IT the benefits of an enterprise data architecture and corporate data governance
5) KEY PERFORMANCE MEASURES Seen as an expert in system architectures, data design methodologies and practices; Assist in mentoring other architects, business and process analysts, application developers and infrastructure staff Ability to blend both technology goals and business goals in creating an effective systems design and architecture. Development of approved Architectural Standards
6) KEY CAPABILITIES, COMPETENCIES, AND QUALIFICATIONS Bachelors degree with specialization in Computer Engineering/Computer Science or the equivalent.Minimum of 12 years of experience in information systems and development with a minimum of 5 years in enterprise architecture, data modeling, database design and data management techniques including:
- Logical and physical data modeling
- Master Data Management
- Data warehousing/data marts
- ETL
- Relational Database Design and Data Analysis
- Defining data structures to satisfy client business objectives.
- Familiarity with one or more data modeling tools.
- Corporate Data Dictionary ans Conceptual Business Modeling
- Data replication and high availability techniques Experience in defining and implementing architecture for internet systems and system interfaces Should have a general knowledge of some of the following technical areas:

- System testing standards compliance and benchmarking experience

Proven ability to earn respect and credibility with both technical and business leadership. Experience leading a technical team Familiarity or experience with architectural and application modeling and design techniques such as UML, RUP, and OOAD. Proven track record of success at closing gap between existing data architectures and proposed data architectures Experience with information systems legal, regulatory, and compliance activities preferred Must have excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate/mentor effectively and clearly, in writing and/or orally, both in one-on-one and group presentation situations with strong skills in leading/controlling/organizing technical meetings. Possess excellent analytical, problem solving, organizational, interpersonal, and motivational skills, with the ability to move cleanly from theoretical to implementation thinking Must be hands-on, detailed oriented and have the ability to prioritize issues and drive progress in ambiguous situations Must have experience working in a matrixed, distributed team environment. Able to interact and communicate with all levels of staff and project management in both the business and the technical areas, with the ability to keep discussions at the appropriate level of abstraction, explain the data architecture, influence business and technical decisions, explain procedures, and advise on design decisions
