Senior System Administrator
Radford University offers a highly diverse curriculum for over 8,400 undergraduate and 1,070 graduate students. Radford University in Virginia invites applications for the position of Senior System Administrator. The Senior System Administrator designs, manages and maintains a highly available server and systems infrastructure for the campus community. Provide leadership, vision, direction and supervision to a staff of Unix, Linux and Windows system administrators. Foster teamwork and cooperation across organizational units. Develops, communicates, and enforce systems administration policies, best practices and standards to ensure accessibility, integrity, confidentiality, and security of the university's server and storage infrastructure. Consults with customers and other Information Technology staff to plan, design, and implement systems to support the university community. Develops and maintains detailed project plans.
Qualifications: Extensive knowledge and experience in support of information systems. Demonstrated ability to manage a diverse technical staff in the implementation of large scale technology projects. Strong knowledge of client/server computing, relational databases, storage area networks, server virtualization and web architectures. Proficient with Windows, Unix and Linux operating system administration. Proficient in some combination of the design, configuration and management of DNS, DHCP, Active Directory, enterprise mail systems (Exchange), enterprise web servers (Apache and IIS), database systems (Oracle and Microsoft SQL), VMWare server virtualization, storage area networks (EMC), and network attached storage. Knowledge of security and disaster recovery principles. Demonstrated ability to think logically and solve problems in a fast paced team environment. Ability to manage projects and work independently and collaboratively, and to provide team leadership. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Bachelor's degree in Information Systems or Computer Science with five years of progressively responsible experience in IT or equivalent combination of education and experience.
