SR. DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR/OPERATIONS SUPERVISOR

Manage the activities, projects and approximately four staff members for Information Services with the focus in the Oracle and SQL Database Administration area; support business users in their functional area, troubleshoot problems and direct the implementation and completion of special projects; prepare recommendations for hardware and software acquisitions, staffing and consultants, special projects and contribute to the budget preparation process; create the capacity to provide the full range of database administration services to support the applications under development and prepare for upgrades of existing applications through staff development and use of contractors as needed; ensure regular backups of all database instances; monitor the database regularly to manage memory, CPU and storage resources and to gather statistics to tune the databases for best performance; architect system changes to generate additional capacity required for growth and/or stability; define and implement Disaster Recovery strategies and plans as needed; document and enforce standards for creating databases and database objects, accessing databases, managing backups and promoting applications from test to production environments; perform management responsibilities including coaching and directing the activities of work group team members, encouraging staff professional development and exploration of emerging technologies, conducting interviews and selecting new group members and contractors, and documenting and conducting performance appraisals for group members; ensure database service practices meet the changing needs of the applications and infrastructure environments; manage vendor relations; research new technologies in the database and infrastructure area; lead and direct technical support and assistance through the establishment of sound support practices and methodologies as well as establish business processes that meet best technology practices.

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field and four years experience in database administration including a minimum of two years of supervisory experience is required. Prefer applicants with a knowledge of Oracle and SQL database system administration; knowledge of operating systems, application software and applications analysis and programming; knowledge of database design and implementation, computerized graphic mapping systems and inter and intranet applications and design; knowledge of the modern methods and techniques of information technology; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, establish and maintain effective working relationships and work in a team environment; ability to troubleshoot, diagnose and resolve system problems as well as to install hardware/software; ability to design and implement databases; ability to analyze system performance; ability to evaluate user requests and define system requirements.
