Storage/UNIX Administrator

maconit is currently looking for a mid to senior Storage/Unix Administrator for a long term consulting opportunity in the Richmond, VA area. The Selected candidate will be responsible for activities related to UNIX system administration. Ensures
long-term requirements of systems operations and administration are
included in the overall information systems planning of the
organization. Develops and promotes standard operations documentation
such as procedures, checklists, and instructions.

Will be involved in Storage Administration and experience with DMX and storage management are desired.

Responsible for the installation, maintenance, configuration, and
integrity of network operating software. Develops and completes large
scale projects and system enhancements that will improve the
reliability and performance of HP, LINUX and Sun UNIX servers. Schedules installations
in accordance with established IT policies and procedures.

BUSINESS KNOWLEDGE
*Has a good understanding of the IT industry primarily relating to
UNIX operating systems, server system architectures, storage systems,
and system administration tools and best practices.
*Able to identify IT trends and leverage this knowledge in making
business and technology recommendations.

COMMUNICATION AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS
*Expresses ideas clearly and succinctly when speaking; Responds
convincingly to objections of others; Speaks effectively in group
situations.
*Effectively summarizes complex information in written formats.
*Able to effectively coordinate resources to resolve problems.
*Self motivated to identify current system or process deficiencies and
to recommend solutions

Experience Required
*Should possess excellent technical skills to support the organization
in recommending technology, making purchasing decisions, and assisting
junior team members. Mastery of the specific technical and
professional skills required for this position. Minimum of 7 years
UNIX experience to include 2 or more years of experience with HP-UX
and HP hardware.

PREREQUISITE TECHNICAL SKILLS
*Ability to interact with the user community and all levels of IT
management to gather system requirements.
*Ability to work on projects that require extensive server based
hardware or software investments.
*Strong UNIX technical skills to include:
- Hardware knowledge of server construction, component compatibility,
peripheral equipment, operating system configuration, and networking.
- Software knowledge of scripting, system tools, performance
measurement tools, as well as, familiarity with major application
software.
*Able to work within hardware/software budgets and provide
comprehensive systems solutions.
*Good understanding of system capacity planning.
*Requires excellent technical and project coordination skills.
