Systems Administrator III

 NAVTEQ is the leading provider of digital map data for Vehicle Navigation, Internet & Wireless applications and Business Solutions. Cutting edge applications such as these are part of a growing set of applications that enhance consumer's access to information while they are mobile. We have coined the term informed mobility' to represent this emerging need.  NAVTEQ data is used in virtually all of the leading navigation systems in both North America and Europe. Our customers rely on NAVTEQ digital map information for use in their applications based on its accuracy, detail and completeness.  UNIX/Linux System Administrator III Position will be responsible for support Linux (both Redhat and Suse) plus secondary support of Solaris and AIX systems.  The candidate will be responsible for providing ongoing software installs, upgrades and maintenance to those systems. The position requires strong scripting skills using shell script, Perl, and other languages.  Familiarity with Clustering, RPM Installation/Removal, Linux KickStart Configuration are desired.  Solid understanding of UNIX-based operating systems, Solaris and Red hat; understands boot process and run levels, paging and swapping, inter-process communication, functions of devices and device drivers and file system concepts.  Will require some email configuration, NIS and LDAP administration and managing daily operations. Additional duties will involve Network and Storage Administration including configuration and maintenance of Fibre Channel Switched Fabric, Cisco Switches, iSCSI  NAS,  NFS,  SAN Fabric design and Backup using Legato Networker. Candidate must be familiar with Lun creation, HBA configuration, dual-patching software and Data migration technologies. Familiarity with Hitachi Data Systems storage products considered a plus.  Candidate should possess a strong background in Performance and tuning, with a working knowledge of I/O subsystems and array operations. The position will require interface with DBA’s and outside vendors.    Responsible for managing projects related to Linux/Solaris server capacity planning, new Linux infrastructure design/build-out/deployments, improving Linux/Solaris server performance and availability, implementing new server monitoring and tuning technologies and complex troubleshooting and problem resolution of major server issues. Strong interpersonal and communication skills; capable of writing purchase justifications, training users in complex topics, making presentations to an internal audience, interacting positively with management, and solid planning skills.  Working knowledge of TCP/IP networked environments; configuring network interfaces, routing table, NFS and DNS configuration and basic network troubleshooting.  EDUCATION:  Bachelors degree in computer science or science/engineering related field strongly desired, but not required   NAVTEQ is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer M/F/D/V  JOB TITLE: Systems Administrator III COMPANY: NAVTEQ LOCATION: Chicago, IL 60606 STATUS: Full Time, Employee JOB CATEGORY: IT/Software Development CAREER LEVEL: Experienced (Non-Manager)
