Primary responsibilities will include, but not limited to, the configuration and installation of Windows servers and workstations, performing installations and upgrades of operating systems and software packages, implementing strong system-level security measures, performance monitoring and tuning, and continued administration of our enterprise systems.Job Duties: * Responsible for planning and executing Active Directory migrations/consolidations.* Responsible for planning and executing Exchange migrations/consolidations.* Responsible for developing technical project plans and testing procedures.* Work with various campus groups to identify functional and technical requirements.* Participate in the design and deployment of a complex virtualized infrastructure utilizing VMWare.* Responsible for evaluating, implementing and troubleshooting software and hardware solutions.* Responsible for implementing procedures to ensure strong system-level security and integrity.* Evaluate, test and implement vendor patches/upgrades for both hardware and software.* Support the backup and recovery strategy for the campus.* Perform monitoring and tuning of systems to achieve optimum performance levels.* Conduct hardware and software audits of systems to ensure compliance with established policies, standards, and configuration guidelines.* Develop comprehensive documents for building, troubleshooting and supporting servers and associated applications.* Perform Active Directory Organization Unit (OU) maintenance.* Participate in the design, deployment and support of a standardized desktop automation system (automated OS imaging, software rollouts, patching, etc.)* Occasional off-hours work is required.* Will be required to participate in off-hours on-call rotation.Minimum Requirements:* Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent.* 6+ years experience acting in a customer-facing, consultative capacity designing, deploying, and managing enterprise applications and services on Microsoft platforms in mixed client environments.* The selected candidate must pass a pre-employment background investigation to be hired for this position.Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:* Senior-level design and administration skills using Windows Server 2000/2003, Active Directory, Exchange 2003, VMWare, DNS, DHCP, WINS.* Expert skills in deploying, securing, troubleshooting, tuning and maintaining enterprise-level systems including: e-mail servers, web and application servers, database servers, file and print servers, backup/recovery solutions, network load balancers and firewalls.* Expert skills in deploying and maintaining enterprise-level storage solutions such as Storage Area Networks (SAN) and Network Attached Storage (NAS).* Experience deploying and maintaining Microsoft cluster solutions on Windows Server 2003.* Strong networking knowledge and skills (especially TCP/IP, NetBIOS & DNS).* Candidate must have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.* Must be highly professional, focused on quality, customer service oriented, and have excellent in-person support demeanor for users of all skill levels.* Willingness and ability to handle a wide range and number of tasks requiring all levels of technical ability.* Demonstrable ability to work effectively on independent, self-directed projects.* The candidate must be able to lift moderately heavy equipment up to 50 pounds.Advantageous Qualifications: * Experience supporting the following products: Cisco PIX firewalls, Microsoft SQL Server, IIS, Veritas Backup Exec, Citrix, SiteScope, and Altiris.* Experience using scripting languages for system administration.* Intermediate knowledge of UNIX/Linux and/or Macintosh platforms.* Relevant professional and technical certifications.Caltech is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer.
