Unix Administrator

TransCore, a subsidiary of Roper Industries, Inc. (NYSE: ROP) is seeking a full-time Unix Administrator to join the System Operations team in Beaverton, Oregon.

 

Position Overview:

 

The Unix Administrator defines, designs and implements network communications and solutions using the Unix platform.  In addition, this professional proposes and implements system enhancements (software and hardware updates) that will improve the performance and reliability of the system, manages the load configuration of a central data communication processor and makes recommendations for purchase or upgrade of data networks.  The Unix Administrator will coordinate terminal orders and cable installations, network system planning, upgrading, monitoring, testing and servicing.

 

Position Duties and Responsibilities:

 Format, partition, add a new repair and replace a disk.Backup and restore using Veritas NetBackupDNS configuration, setup and troubleshootingProduce written documentation as requiredPerform daily administrative duties including user maintenance, peripheral maintenance and monitoring system logsBuild and configure serversManage moderate scale projectsAssist senior level Unix Administrator with security for productionOther system administrator duties as assigned

 

 

The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:

 

·  Solid experience troubleshooting Solaris and Linux systems issues preferably in a large environment (50+ servers)

·  Proven ability to maintain the daily operations of Solaris and Linux based servers used for both internal and external production and non-production applications.

·  Previous experience needs to include server builds, implementation, configuration, maintenance, system monitoring, backup and recovery, change management disciplines, performance and testing in an enterprise environment.

Education Requirements and Career Experience:

 

Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in Computer Science or similar technical discipline from a 4-year college or university (or equivalent work experience), plus a minimum of 3 years of hands-on related experience with increasing responsibilities in Solaris and Linux products in production and non-production environments.
