Location: Austin, TXYour location:home   »  find a job   »  advanced search   »  job description Apply Online Send this Job to a Friend Job Description: The basic function of this position is to provide senior-level UNIX administration services to ensure the effective, efficient and secure operation of assigned systems. The scope is to coordinate all aspects of the UNIX administration support services in the Austin Data Center. This includes operating system installation, tuning and maintenance activities; architecture design; change management; documentation of existing and proposed systems; coordination of wide and local area networking requirements; coordination with application administrators, user communities and IT professionals on other teams. Duties and Responsibilities 1. Design, build, tune and maintain all UNIX-based systems in support of assigned business applications. 2. Lead all aspects of the activities required to ensure the assigned operating systems are available to the appropriate user community, as arranged, and in a manner that is effective, efficient and secure including but not limited to the following: • Plan, manage, document and perform installations and upgrades for the operating system, hardware, and firmware. • Monitor performance, tune, and maintain historical performance data. • Develop and execute system recovery plan and ensure successful daily backups. • Design, implement, and maintain system security. • Develop, document and report system metrics to forecast growth and recommend hardware modifications. • Interface with network support team to maintain, secure, and improve network connectivity. • Provide on-call support (24/7) to include investigating, troubleshooting and resolving Operating System, application and database issues. 3. Work closely with Data Center Operators and other IT and business teams to ensure the day-to-day technical activities required to support the assigned systems are appropriately defined, documented, executed, monitored and improved. 4. Maintain appropriate coordination and communications with the users, functional owners, and regional and corporate IT professionals in support of assigned systems. 5. Work as a team member or lead on multiple projects and assignments relating to UNIX operations or related application initiatives. 6. Minimum Requirements Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent work experience. Minimum of 5 years experience as a UNIX system administrator in a large, networked environment. Strong background supporting UNIX systems running corporate business applications. Demonstrated experience working on project teams and ability to meet project objectives. Demonstrated experience managing the IBM AIX operating system. Demonstrated experience managing IBM System p hardware. Demonstrated ability to work as an integral, effective member of a large technical team.
