Location: Washington, DC - Metro
The position will be responsible for deployment, patching, managing and maintaining Unix systems including all aspects of monitoring and troubleshooting. This position focuses on making sure an organization's systems are secure, tuned for optimum performance, delivering required information to end-users, and interacting properly with other systems.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform in an environment where project deadlines are critical and multiple projects run in parallel
- Perform OS building, configuration and troubleshooting
- Review changes, support issues, functionality changes and requirements for servers
- Provide recommendations regarding standardization, sizing and costs for server purchases
- Plan and provide for updating operating system software to comply with vendor support and migration criteria

REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or comparable computer systems related discipline
- 4 years experience in a production high-availability data center environment
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Experience with multiple server hardware platforms and operating systems
(Sun Solaris, UNIX, AT&T UNIX) installation, configuration, upgrades, and maintenance
- Understanding of networking technology at the physical (twisted pair, fiber optic) and logical (Ethernet, TCP/IP) level including the various supporting services and protocols (DNS, LDAP)
- Understanding of Unix utilities, system management, startup/shutdown, user administration, system security, file and space management, system backup and restore, floppy disk backup and tape utilities, system care and maintenance.
- Working knowledge of database processing and SQL, Informix preferable.
- Working knowledge of Unix shell programming, C-ISAM, VI Editor
- Experience with enterprise data backup systems, tape backup systems, enterprise data storage (NAS/SAN) systems
- Problem solving and troubleshooting skills
- Experience in technical projects, vendor coordination and collaboration with IT personnel to accomplish projects on time and within budget is preferred
- Hardware: NCR 3445 microcomputer systems hardware experience desirable
- AT&T UNIX System V/386/486 Release 4.0 Version 3.0 experience desirable
