VMware Architect/Engineer

This position can be in any US Sun location Owns the technical design of the VMWare environment. * Escalation point for operations in the event of issues with the technical design. * Reviews customer forecast and implements a deliver plan. * Oversees the technical consistency and change among different data centers and makes sure that the provisioning capacity as stated in the contract is technically capable and resilient enough for each site. * Investigates, coordinates and implements change to the infrastructure among and within data centers. * Interface with other technical staff regarding availability of the infrastructure, health of the hardware, technical considerations for planning and managing hardware replacements. * Works with Service Delivery Manager when the customer has questions about the technical capabilities of our solution. * Performs installation, customization and maintenance of the operating system and system software products in support of business processing requirements * Performs system software installations, system software maintenance and product upgrades. * Tests software updates and patches. * Monitors and tunes the system to achieve optimum performance levels in standalone and multi-tiered environments. * Conducts system analysis, configuration management and develops improvements for system software performance, availability and reliability. * Perform Incident resolution, Problem Determination and Root Cause Analysis in accordance with Service Level Agreements. * Provides in-depth diagnosis for operating systems software/hardware failures and develops solutions. * Implements appropriate levels of system security. * Provides technical assistance to IT support staff. * Transfers knowledge and provides leadership support to Analysts and Specialists in the implementation of new hardware, operating systems and other required software on the systems. * Comprehensive troubleshooting skills * Outstanding written and verbal communication skills * Significant project management experience and leadership skills 5+ years of VMWare experience including large enterprise deployments. * 5+ years SAN Administration. * Strong customer service skills. * Excellent verbal and written communication skills. * Ability to learn quickly and work in a fast paced environment. * Scripting experience. * VMWare ESX Version 3. * VMWare VMotion. * VMWare HA (High Availability). * VMWare Lab Manager. * VMWare Consolidated Backup. * VMWare DRS (Dynamic Resource Scheduler). * VMware Infrastructure 3.5. * VMware Lifecycle Manager. * Excellent planning and design skills. * Excellent Troubleshooting skills. * Excellent communication, project management, and teamwork skills. * Performance Optimization and Monitoring. * Proficient in Remote Systems Administration. * Sun Blade Chassis & Servers. * SAN design. 5+ years of UNIX Systems administration experience. * 5+ years Project Management.Sun Microsystems Inc. is an equal opportunity employer and appreciates your desire to be considered for a position.
