APPLICATION SUPPORT SUPERVISOR

OVERVIEW:

Incumbent will, at the direction of the Director of Enterprise Application Systems, perform complex programming tasks and assume project management responsibilities on critical application upgrades, programming projects and application enhancements. Primary in the responsibilities of the Application Support Supervisor is maintaining a high level of expertise on the SGHE Banner application and be the prime advocate for end users by supplying technical support, reporting and programming skills. Incumbent must supply technical leadership, structure and strict procedures in regards to supporting and enhancing the administrative systems via forms, reports and Web applications. In addition, the incumbent will supply technical support to end users accessing Banner data via application reporting tools for campus and district-wide reporting and analysis functions.


EXAMPLES OF KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Participate in the SGHE Banner module implementation & support committee as assigned by the Director of Enterprise Applications

- Supply technical support, analysis and programming to ensure complete and appropriate use of the Banner Administrative system

- Review User needs and requests, develop proposed solutions to needs and Requests for Enhancements (RPE’s) where required; participate in the development and adherence to project schedules

- Adhere to standards and procedures for client/server system development, database access and reporting

- Enhance and support Web application access to RDBMS data

- Serve as liaison to vendor(s) for application support and problem resolution; identify, track, and respond to user issues

- Assist in developing software and systems to optimize performance of RDBMS, client/server application access and Web applications accessing RDBMS data

- At the direction of the Director of Enterprise Applications assume leadership role in the testing and installation of application updates and upgrades; participate in the impact analysis of upgrades and patches

- Design, develop and implement application enhancements while ensuring adherence to detailed programming procedures and change controls

- Maintain programming change/enhancement request log and follow appropriate priorities (at the direction of the Director of Enterprise Applications)

- Coordinate with other SGHE Banner clients regarding user needs, product functionality and proposed and existing application enhancements

- Ensure appropriate completion and submission of all state mandated MIS/320 reporting in-line with SGHE Banner baseline functionality

- Perform related duties as assigned

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:

Knowledge of:

- Solid knowledge of Oracle design and development environment
- Reporting tools such as Argos, Crystal Reports
- Complex higher education integrated information systems
- Database Functions, Triggers and Views
- Relational Database programming, reporting and ODBC data access
- Complex relational database management systems (RDBMS)
- Principles and techniques of Web based systems accessing RDBMS data
- PL/SQL, SQL Plus, CGI, COBOL, C, UNIX, client/server systems
- Specific UNIX procedures/commands related to RDBMS analysis and programming
- SGHE Banner Software, Security, Naming Conventions and Functionality
- OSI Model
- Security procedures and processes in a RDBMS environment
- Principles and techniques of structured systems analysis and design.
- Operation and capabilities of computer equipment.
- Oral and written communication skills – both technical and end-user related

Ability to:

- Configure/Utilize Personal Computer for client/server access and development on RDBMS
- System implementation, development and integration using the RDBMS with client/server and Web based applications
- Plan, organize and take a leadership role in testing and implementation of RDBMS application updates and upgrades
- Organize and Manage projects; Produce appropriate project documentation
- Mentor and assist junior-level staff and supply assistance to peers
- Work with Management and Users to develop Policies and Procedures
- Assist in planning, coordinating and conducting SGHE Banner Training
- Assist in developing and implementing programming and documentation standards
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing at both the technical level and with applications users
- Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with members of the user community and information systems personnel
- Communicate with users and effectively interpret user needs

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Information Systems and five years of increasingly responsible experience in computer systems and systems analysis in a RDBMS environment.  Specialized training and experience in programming, enhancing and reporting from relational database management systems.  

Application development leadership experience in a college or university environment.  Experience with the implementation and maintenance of SGHE Banner, preferably SGHE’s student information system.  Two years of supervisory experience is required.  

In addition, experience in utilizing Internet tools in creating user friendly, secure and effective Web access to RDBMS data for inquiry, update and reporting is required. Extensive knowledge and experience with the Oracle application development environment and IBM AIX.

SELECTION PROCEDURE:

SALARY AND BENEFITS:

Salary Range:  S-12, $96,084 - $105,120.

*The College currently contributes $11,047 toward annual premiums for medical, dental, vision and life insurance coverage. Lifetime retirement benefits provided for eligible retirees.
