Coordinates and leads the development and maintenance of applications. Consults with customers to understand business problems and develops technical solutions. Provides technical expertise on applications, technical tools and software. Provides technical direction to customers and support staff.QualificationsEight years of information technology experience OR a bachelor's degree and six years of information technology experience. Positions in this classification may require a knowledge of one or more programming languages and/or a knowledge of an application and application tools.The successful candidate will be the applications administrator for the Blackboard Academic Suite and related applications. He/she will be responsible for the performance and reliability of the applications. They will partner with the DBA and Operational Support teams to ensure a reliable system; analyze implications of proposed changes in the infrastructure and application and propose remedies and schedules as necessary; support production, quality assurance and development instances of the full system. Major duties: - System monitoring - Application upgrades - System patches and hotfix changes - Test infrastructure changes - Perform quality assurance testing - Blackboard application configuration - Apache configuration - Tomcat configuration - Performance metrics- Participate in a 24x7 on-call support rotation - Troubleshoot application problems - Troubleshoot enterprise integration problems Required experience: - Administration of a 24/7 Enterprise application- A solid understanding of UNIX (Solaris and Linux) based operating systems. - Experience with Oracle configuration, tuning, SQL*Plus, PL/SQL.- Experience with Apache and Tomcat web technology - Experience with integrating Directory Information between enterprise level application, including LDAP integration.- Proficient in the Perl and Shell scripting language - Strong inter-personal and communication skills; capable of writing proposals
