Associate Research Scientist
OCLC Online Computer Library Center, Inc. is a nonprofit, membership, computer library service and research organization dedicated to the public purposes of furthering access to the world's information and reducing information costs. Tens of thousands of libraries around the world use OCLC services to locate, acquire, catalog, lend and preserve library materials. We are currently seeking candidates for an Associate Research Scientist position at our Corporate Headquarters in Dublin, Ohio
Responsibilities:Initiate, conduct, and complete self-directed research initiatives to support corporate, division, and member goals and projects that are responsive to the needs, interests, and current trends of the library and museum communities.Manage projects and meet project, publication, and presentation time lines.Prepare, present, and disseminate research findings by publishing in professional, juried journals and orally at professional conferences and meetingsAct as mentor to research assistants and interns and supervise and review their workPrepare and submit grant proposals to fund original research
Qualifications:Ph.D in Library and Information Science, Computer Science, Informatics, Engineering, Human-Computer Interaction, Cognitive Psychology, or related disciplineThree years of research experience, including doctoral researchDemonstrated knowledge of research methods and ability to analyze and synthesize data and informationFamiliarity with libraries and/or museums and their processes and terminology and library metadataInterest in library and information science researchProject management skillsFamiliarity with Microsoft Office programs and database programsSuperior written, oral and interpersonal communication skills. Must be self-motivatedAbility to understand and communicate with technical staff
Desirable:Knowledge of social software and systemsProficiency in one or more programming languages, e.g., Java, C++Publications in professional journals and conference proceedingsFamiliarity with quantitative and qualitative data analysis software programsComputer analysis and systems design experienceProficiency in one or more non-English languages
