Business Analyst / Product Analyst (very data intensive!)

 

Data-focused Business Analyst / Product Analyst for #1 trading firm!

In addition to traditional BA skills (meeting with users, establishing requirements, creating functional and technical specs, etc)…you will be heavily involved in the analysis of data and creation of solutions.  Need a very analytical and math-minded person.  Must be a “natural thinker” with a strong education.

 

Must understand Equity Trading behavior –

-          Must have strong database - complex SQL and query skills to manipulate data within Oracle.

-          Looking at trade behavior – make sure that users are acting within proper guidelines

-          Will look at trends to anticipate future trading/member behavior

-          Data “Mining” – with knowledge of trading behavior

 

It’s a combination of business and Technology.  To start, will focus on day to day user “issues” – eg, running stats, etc.. but this is to do more than Product Support –must be  be PRO-ACTIVE –eg, see patterns and put together business rules and “scenarios” for market surveillance – work with the Development team to implement solutions.   

 

This person will work with the Research Group (Bleeding edge technology solutions) – eg, working with complex event processing – implementing with a real time market surveillance.  

 

Regarding SQL: 

Must know SQL – complex – the engine is driven through SQL – will write a lot of SQL

(not stored procs) – create tables – they work with Oracle – this is selects with Joins, outer - joins etc.

Oracle – “analytical functions” – functions that Oracle provides (eg – know how to remove duplicate rows, merge different data and calculate moving average

 

Tech skill:

It’s a big plus if the candidate has a development background – for web dev – eg, C#/web forms – C# preferred – develop a lot of prototypes (indication analyze to look at order flow – create charts about trade “violations”) – look at trends – it’s not classic  development – but to avoid doing so many excel spreadsheets, can create a better program… The other groups can use this – eg, Sales can see what the users are doing.

 

Business skills:  in depth knowledge of the buy side of equity trading – market surveillance preferred – eg, work directly with Trading desk.

 

Need to be Proactive – see patterns in the data – create “something out of nothing” – need very analytical mind

Compensation is very competitive:  Base + Bonus up to 200k plus Equity
