Principal Responsibilities

Designs, develops, implements, documents and/or operates moderately complex scientific, information, computing, networking, storage, business and/or administrative systems and/or services, applying multi-disciplinary knowledge and skills, as required to meet the Laboratory needs.
Communicates and coordinates with other technical personnel working closely on a project, including those from non-computing disciplines.
Provides input for the purchase, deployment, integration and maintenance of systems and/or services.
Defines service levels and measures performance metrics.
Diagnoses, monitors and analyzes the performance of information, computing, networking and/or storage systems and/or services.
Provides consultation to users and supporting services as needed.
Gathers, interprets and implements requirements and information from users for specific system and service projects, and obtains feedback.
Provides primary interface to suppliers and vendors for small projects as needed.
Plans for the evolution of the system(s) and/or services, including security, capacity and logistical planning.
Develops specifications for moderately complex inter-related projects and implements them.
Communicates effectively to management, peers and stakeholders, in written and verbal form.
Abides by and is responsible for performing all duties as assigned and in accordance with all environmental, health and safety regulations and practices pertinent to this position.

Required Qualifications

Required high school with 5-7 years experiencePreferred Bachelors Degree with 4-5 years experience

In addition to the above, candidates must possess the following to be considered highly qualified for the position. Applicants must describe how they meet the following essential functions and preferred qualifications in their application materials.

Essential Functions and Preferred Qualifications

Strong knowledge of the Solaris OS, especially Solaris 10
At least 3 yrs experience in Solaris administration
At least 3 yrs experience in Storage administration of a FC SAN, with knowledge of different RAID types and their uses
Knowledge of HDS, BlueArc, Nexsan highly desirable
Experience with design, implementation, and maintenance of existing SAN, NAS, AFS, and backup infrastructure.Must also be willing to work on a pager rotation which will include learning email, web, content management, product distribution, linux, and other central services.This position will require 24x7 pager participation.
