POSITION SUMMARY
The Database administrator will install, configure, customize, create, implement, and support the Oracle/MSSQL databases, setup/administer Oracle/MSSQL database security environment; carry out DB performance tuning; troubleshoot DB problems, work with Oracle/Microsoft support on problems and questions; schedule RMAN (backup/recovery); install and configure, customize Oracle/MSSQL server and clients; schedule, install and configure Oracle/MSSQL upgrades; install, configure, customize Oracle/MSSQL related system level software; design, develop and create all database file systems layouts and Oracle/MSSQL databases; monitor software notifications and updates; configuring client/server and Web-based environments; provide technical assistance and troubleshooting support to developers; review database design specifications and application coding routines to ensure adherence to best practice methods for database usage; ensure database performance is maintained at optimal levels and is able to support defined business requirements; provide problem diagnosis and resolution; schedule database backups; diagnose and resolve backup failures; configure, analyze application SQL to do SQL Tuning for performance improvement opportunities; develop/document/maintain Oracle database operational procedures; utilize Solaris Administration skills; develop UNIX/Windows shell scripts; work with system engineers and administrators to design, build, upgrade and support the necessary Oracle/MSSQL infrastructure experience supporting high-availability production databases; experience with and willingness to support 24x7 production environments.
REQUIREMENTSThe candidate must have a strong track record of accomplishment in these areas:Recoverability - Creating and testing Backups Integrity - Verifying or helping to verify data integrity Security - Defining and/or implementing access controls to the data Availability - Ensuring maximum uptime Performance - Ensuring maximum performance given budgetary constraints Development and testing support - Helping programmers and engineers to efficiently utilize the database The successful candidate should possess the following: 4 years as an Oracle DBA; experience with MSSQL server; strong communications skills; experience supporting a high-availability production database; experience in a Solaris environment a plus; experience in database architecture and design highly desirable; experience with RAC highly desirable; experience with Oracle Replication highly desirable
EDUCATION
The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree. Major in computer science, MIS or EE preferred
