Data Warehouse Data Architect

The Data Architect will re-engineer and maintain Volvo IT North America’s view of data to be used for data warehousing purposes. This individual will analyze information requirements specified by the user community and design the required data structures to support those requirements using dimensional modeling techniques. The Data Architect has responsibility for review and approval of the data model by the project team, and must be able to influence the project team to design and build quality data models within defined Volvo ITNA standards. Major Position Responsibilities:
Will review all current operational data structures and recommend optimizations and reconfigurations as warranted.
Prepare and propose timeline for implementing data management principles and standards.
Develop and maintain standards and principles for logical and physical data warehouse architectures using best practices.
Create and maintain data dictionary, business meta data & data modeling standards and recommended processes.
Create and maintain all data warehouse logical and physical data models.
Identify information needs and business rules as part of Conceptual and Logical Data Model development efforts.
Conduct data life cycle analysis and data profiling activities to assist in the production of source-to-target mapping and transformation specifications.
Gain consensus among users on common business data definitions.
Constantly evaluate reusability of current data for additional analyses.


  Skills and Qualifications Required:
Business analysis and requirement gathering skills.
Data modeling experience based on business requirements, adhering to recognized industry standards.
Must have thorough understanding & practical application of relational and dimensional design as well as industry embraced methodologies.
Excellent oral communication skills interacting with business users, executives, and technologists. 
Working knowledge of Kimball methodologies. 
Working knowledge of CASE tools (Erwin, Oracle Designer, QDesigner). 
Bachelor’s Degree required.
