The Carson City office is located in Nevada’s state capital, on the eastern slopes of the Sierra Nevada mountain range. Carson City employees represent the Retail Business Unit, focusing primarily on Underwriting, Funding, Collections, Customer Service, and Retail Accounting functions. Insurance support is provided by the Cycle Rider, Dealer Services and Insurance Accounting departments. In addition to Retail and Insurance, the Carson City facility maintains employee support in the following areas; Legal/Compliance, Facilities, IT, Human Resources and Training. There are approximately 450 employees at the Carson City location.

POSITION SUMMARY

 

Plans, conducts and supervises database administration (DBA) assignments for complex development and maintenance projects; reviews progress; and evaluates results.  Schedules and supervises project tasks including individual and team development of DBA skills, project supervision, and evaluation. Responsible for the development and implementation of policies and procedures for DBA production database standards and change management. This individual is an expert-level database administration resource for the company, requiring detailed understanding of database server technology being utilized at HDFS (software and hardware) and keeps up-to-date on industry trends and has the skills and knowledge to effectively implement new technologies.  This individual will assist the IT Systems Support Manager in recommending solutions to enhance the DBA service levels provided to HDFS.  May act in a liaison capacity with other departments, divisions and organizations. This individual will also be capable of acting as the stand-in for the IT Systems Support Manager.

 

 PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

· Coordinates DBA development tasks for new projects by analyzing database requirements and creating a project plan.

· Owner of the database physical model for all HDFS owned databases.  Advanced knowledge of database design concepts.  Understands the advance principals of relational database concepts.

· Provides specifications to SAN administration for physical layout of the database on a UNIX server.  Reviews database capacity requirements with SAN administrator.

· Mentor to DBA team.

· Provides advanced database design support to development teams.

· Provides advanced database security solutions to ensure protection of customer data.

· Proposes detailed project specifications and coordinates installation of revised or new systems.

· Utilizes expert-level understanding of database administration tasks to resolve complex production level-3 support issues.

· Prepares detailed database project specifications and timelines and coordinates the system’s installation.

· Utilizes advanced database knowledge for tuning database internals and application SQL.

· Advanced knowledge of database backup and recovery functionality.

· Advanced knowledge of DR strategies for production databases.

· May act in liaison capacity with other departments, divisions, and vendors. 

· Evaluates progress and results and recommends changes in database administration procedures. 

· Stand-in for the IT Systems Support Manager as required.

 

 

 

 JOB REQUIREMENTSExperience/Knowledge/Other Skills

· Provides recommendations, policies, and procedures concerning all phases of the Systems Life Cycle involving the analysis, design and implementation of a database system. Requires Bachelors of Science degree with major in Computer Science, Math or Engineering or 4 or more years’ relevant professional experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.12+ years experience in all facets of database administration utilizing Oracle on UNIX (AIX) servers for OLTP applications supporting 100s of users.DBA experience administering Oracle 10g databases.Advanced knowledge of Oracle RMAN backup utility.Advanced knowledge of Oracle Standby database concepts.Advanced knowledge of relational database design concepts for OLTP, datamarts, and data warehouse databases.Advanced database tuning skills of Oracle internals and application SQL.Advanced knowledge of Oracle monitoring tools (OEM, custom scripts, PL/SQL).3+ years experience administering the Oracle Application Server.Ability to interact with both technical and non-technical staff.Outstanding written and verbal communication skills. Competencies
