 ANNOUNCEMENT OF POSITION TITLE: Database Engineer (Job# 7880, 4575)

SALARY:  $50,000-$57,000 depending upon experience and training.  This is a non-bargaining position with the City of Springfield benefits.

 

FUNDING SOURCE: Title 1 & General Funds

 

WORK SCHEDULE: 37.5 hours per week – 52 weeks per year including 2 weeks paid vacation time.

 

  Reports to the Director of Information Systems

 

OVERVIEW:

 

The Database Engineer is the authority for all operations involving the databases within the Springfield Public Schools.  The Database Engineer will develop, maintain and optimize SQL Server databases while prioritizing security, integration, data integrity, system availability and performance.  This position will work closely with the software developers and will be responsible for all aspects of database design, development and administration.

 

DUTIES:Responsible for all Information Systems database maintenance including backup/restore, security, data integrity, service releases/upgrades, system configuration and data migration.Responsible to monitor database system performance.Responsible for data integration and improving current processes/procedures.Implementation of tables, views, functions, stored procedures, and packages to support the data and application development initiatives of the District.Documentation of new/existing processes/procedures.Responsibilities include but are not limited to supporting the Data Warehouse, Student Database, Human Resources, Finance, and all other SPS Databases.Will procure data and develop reports from District systems for internal requests as needed.Any other duties necessary for the successful operation of the Information Systems and integration of District data, as assigned by the Director of Information Systems or the Chief Information Officer.

QUALIFICATIONS:Must be team oriented while capable of working independently.Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with time sensitive deadlines.Strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.Minimum Bachelors Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or related.Working experience with SQL server 2005.Strong DBMS principles and SQL programming skills.Ability to develop data driven reports using Access or other software.Experience in object oriented programming and design using any of the following: MS Visual Basic, C++, C#, JavaUnderstanding of Windows 2000-2003 server operating systems with knowledge of the command line (CMD).Experience administering SQL Server databases, tables, views, user defined functions, stored procedures, DTS, SSIS, Backup/Restore.  MCDBA Certification a plus.Knowledge and technical skills using MS Excel.An understanding of Active Directory and Microsoft security.Open to new technologies and eager to learn.
