Datalab Technical Lead

Description:Detica seeks a lead analyst to manage a small team and run Datalab, which is a state of the art facility that enables fast, consistent and predictable delivery of a range of analytical services. The successful candidate can expect to work on a range of assignments from fraud, through to credit risk and marketing across sectors including: banking, insurance, telecoms and Government. Our key differentiator is the innovative techniques and research into new approaches, but underpinned by best of breed tools such as SAS.
A significant component of the work will involve our flagship social network and link analysis product NetReveal. This product builds networks within billions of records and is resold by SAS as part of their fraud platform. It also has applications in credit risk and marketing. It offers analysis a step change in prediction by allowing all the traditional modelling techniques to be applied to social networks rather than stand alone individuals or accounts (www.deticanetreveal.com).


The role requires individuals who can design, build and maintain advanced analytics solutions, which could require techniques such as data matching and transformation, sampling and profiling, artificial intelligence and neural network modelling, clustering, geographic mapping and spatial modelling. You will be expected to demonstrate best practice data analytics together with an aptitude for interpreting your findings to provide clear and measurable insight.


Banking industry experience in scorecard development and modelling (minimum 3 years in credit risk or fraud modelling and total experience of at least 5 years working in a data and statistical modelling environment)
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present complex ideas to technical and non-technical audiences.
Excellent analytical and problem solving skills with an understanding of existing and emerging technologies.
Self motivated and motivates others keeping morale and performance high.
Ability to prioritise workload and work well under pressure to meet deadlines and manage business expectations.
Flexible approach to hours, dress (smart or casual to suit client environment) work location and tasks to meet client needs (but primarily based in Ballston, Washington).



Top class degree qualified in either IT, Engineering, Mathematics or Science.


Developing and managing a small team of junior analysis, leading projects, providing input for an IT specialist responsible for the environment (initially ~12CPU’s, 20TB storage), meeting customers (US leading banks and insurers initially), ensuring responsible treatment of customer’s data, developing and managing a set of models.

SAS programming and model development (3 years minimum and must involve work in the banking environment) and exposure to a range of the following techniques: ETL, data quality assessment, data matching, BI reporting, SQL, data warehouse design, analytical techniques and scorecard development.


Some experience of managing small projects or of leading teams working within larger projects would be of use.
