Design Technologies Manager

The Design Technologies Manager is a strategic and key role within the organization which is responsible for leading the firm in the identification and development of digital design technologies. The Design Technologies Manager will be relied upon to keep LPA at the leading edge of design technologies with the insight, experience and understanding to successfully apply these technologies to the organizations ongoing operations. This position reports directly to the Director of Information Technology and indirectly to the Director of Operations.

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 Act as the firm-wide champion for digital design and project delivery processes and technologies and promote the same to corporate leadership.Communicate the value of digital design to project teams and office-wide as well as to consultants and other outside partners.Facilitate the relationship between all design disciplines to develop tools and practices which benefit the project delivery process.Develop, disseminate and administer corporate-wide standards for digital design technologies and processes.Research, evaluate and introduce new and emerging technologies and processes and keep the organization at the forefront of design technologies through readings, conferences, user groups, etc…Develop and document teaching materials, identify opportunities for and conduct training sessions in the continuing education of design technologies throughout the organization.Develop and promote practices to improve production efficiency and effectiveness.Develop, document and coordinate procedures for proper storage as well as archiving of all digital design information and data.Test and benchmark hardware and software configurations, monitor usage and versioning, and make appropriate recommendations for improvements, upgrades and purchases.Develop and maintain relationships with product manufacturers, vendors, resellers, training centers, etc…Supervise, guide and mentor members of the Design Technologies support team.Lead digital design strategy kickoff meetings for all new projects to assist the team in planning their approach, establishing proper expectations and ensuring adequate support for their efforts.Facilitate continual design technology user meetings including the on-going efforts of the internal Project Delivery Advisory Council.

 

 

REQUIREMENTS:

 At least 5 years previous experience managing Architectural or related engineering Design Technologies operations. Passion for design technologies and skilled in the promotion of technologies and practices to increase user effectiveness. Service oriented with commitment to working within a team environment. Superior mentoring and strong interpersonal skills. Able to communicate clearly and effectively with all levels of the organization both written and verbal. Strong, self-motivated work ethic with ability to be effective and timely while providing consistent follow up. Organized and methodical with a resourceful capacity to resolve challenges. Willingness to travel occasionally between offices for standards and process coordination and training.

 

 

DESIRED SKILL SET:

 Superior knowledge of Revit and other BIM technologies with an understanding of the direction of building information modeling and its impact on the AEC industry.Superior knowledge of AutoCAD and other design technologies with direct experience using prior and current versions.E-Builder, Buzzsaw, BidCom, Citadon and other project extranets and virtual collaboration technologiesBIM/CAD detail management and implementation as well as other BIM/CAD utilities. Plotting and output technologies (Oce) and output management and capturing solutions (SmartPrint, Sepialine, etc…).Previous project architecture experience a plus.
