Director of Applications Director of Applications Summary:  Develops procedures and methods to manufacture new or existing product lines while supporting the Sales and Marketing requirements by performing the following duties.    Duties and Responsibilities include the following. *Conceptualizes products from blueprints, sketches or verbal instruction to develop and design new products, and improve existing products and assembly procedures.*   Reviews and recommends new equipment and machinery available from commercial sources.*   Trains staff in new techniques to improve productivity and reliability.*   Assists in all technical aspects of manufacturing, engineering and sales related matters.*   Interfaces directly with customers and through the Sales Department regarding product development, sample evaluations and custom products or techniques.*   Assists in the transfer of all new product information into the manufacturing department and provides initial training to pertinent employees.*   Interfaces with purchasing to locate unavailable or second sources.*   Monitors market for new product needs and stays abreast of developments and current trends in industry through publications and makes suggestions or recommendations.*   Maintains and manages a staff of employees to assist and support in the forth mentioned activities.*   Interfaces directly with the Director of Sales and Marketing and the Director of Engineering for direction and scheduling of personnel and tool time.   Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; and four to six years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.   - Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  - Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  - Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.   - Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.  - Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.   - Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  - Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.    Directly supervises four employees in the Application Engineering Department.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
