Director of the Language Center

SUMMARY:











Provides technical assistance in coordinating the preparation, development, and use of educational materials in the curriculum with specific responsibility for the Tandberg System in The Language Center (TLC) for teaching and learning languages. Reports to the Head of the Languages Division.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:













Include but are not limited to the following as other duties may be assigned:

 

Set up and operate Tandberg System equipment; coordinate and prioritize the activities of the multi-media language center to maximize the benefits to the division, its students and teachers; monitor attendance; organize and/or customize materials.

 

Assist faculty in implementing and improving the use of new technologies in the language curriculum; organize and implement use of new instructional systems; update and document all improvements to the system.

 

Confer with members of the Languages faculty to obtain knowledge of subject teaching areas, and to relate curriculum materials to specific subjects and individual student needs.

 

Administer and maintain the Polyglot intranet web server of curriculum materials.

 

Prepare and develop audio, video, and image digitizers, CD-ROM, DVD, laser disks, and projection devices for use in curriculum.

 

Catalog and maintain the inventory of analog and digital materials.

 

Assist with the learning activities of language students.

 

Assist language faculty in development of new resources for language learning.

 

Coordinate activities of faculty and students in using and maintaining educational materials and equipment in TLC.

 

Train others to use the technologies for such things as video conferencing and correspondence.

 

Operate, receive, and record information from Satellite Dish to make it available to students and teachers for individual live use of classroom applications.

 

Advise faculty/staff in techniques and methods of developing and evaluating specialized materials and instructional units.

 

Review educational materials such as software, audio and video media, and programmed texts for educational content and recommend acquisition of materials.

 

Provide technical support for the School's Technology programs, to include working with the Information Technology Group on equipment support.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree from a four year college or university with background in languages desirable; one to two years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.



 

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

 

Knowledge of Macintosh computers and other electronic devices, including multi-media in teaching and learning languages.

 

Ability to program and maintain the Tandberg System. Technical background with ability to maintain and/or repair equipment.

 

Ability to work effectively with teen-age students and adult faculty.

 

Self starter with strong interpersonal skills and excellent organizational abilities.
