Position Objective
Assist the Senior Engineer Networks in designing, managing, coordinating, installation, maintenance and operation of Metro-North's voice and a communication infrastructure.

Responsibilities Provide designs (i.e. communication and point to point circuits), systems provisioning and modifications to the SONET (Synchronized Optimal Network) voice and data communication systems including routing and switching, TDM (Time Division Multi Plexing) and Digital Cross Connect equipment. Provide support necessary to implement upgrades, replacements and modification to the Metro-North voice communication systems. Assist in the providing designs for applications between the Metro-North users groups, external groups and telecommunications systems. Assist in the establishment of standards, procedures and training necessary for successful deployment of corporate wide communication network. Design, install and troubleshoot network equipment and/or software on Local Area Networks (LAN) and Wide Area Networks (WAN). Provides engineering expertise and recommendations regarding appropriate equipment. Required Qualifications Strong oral and written communication skills. Strong working knowledge of LAN,WAN,SONET,ATM, interior routing protocols, ISDN or carrier experience or network troubleshooting experience or comparable experience. Strong knowledge and experience in the integration of digital networks. Knowledge of Bell System Practices. Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office and/or comparable applications. Strong analytical skills in order to analyze new and existing products, equipment and/or procedures. Must be able to recommend improvements or replacements to better support the voice and communications systems. Understanding of software and hardware systems to perform evaluations. Must be able to work in a high-profile/high-pressure environment. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with internal departments and outside agencies. Must be able to implement and participate in Metro-North Railroad’s Priority One Safety Program. Must be available to work 24-hours 7 days a week as required. Must have a valid driver's license and CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) license. Familiarity with Metro-North policies and procedures is preferred. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering or related Science. Minimum five (5) years of experience in all aspects of digital data communications to include: Large scale data network design, installations and maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of LAN's and associated equipment This is a safety sensitive position and subject to toxicological testing.
