Hardware Engineer

COPAN Systems, Inc. has developed an enterprise level disk-based storage solution that can be used as a disk-based long-term data repository.

 

We are looking for a Hardware Engineer in our Longmont, Colorado location.

 

Position Summary:

This person will drive projects from concept and feasibility through production release adhering to Copan's product development processes. Communicate effectively in both oral and written forms while interfacing with product development and other cross-functional teams as required. It is expected that the candidate is comfortable in a lab environment operating EE test equipment to test and debug their designs. The candidate must be capable of working in a fast paced, team oriented environment.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

- Design high speed digital PCB's

- PCBAs designed shall follow methodologies including ICT and DFx

- During design process, the candidate will be expected to apply the effective usage of the appropriate development and debugging tools

- Prototype and debug new designs, processes, and systems

- Will work with industry standard high speed serial buses (ie:  SAS, SATA, PCI-E I & II)

 

Required Education, Experience and Abilities:

- A BSEE degree or equivalent 10 years of related experience

- At least five years of related experience

- Dependable and efficient, team-oriented individual with excellent problem solving, communication and inter-personal skills.

- A thorough knowledge of high speed PCB design (6Gb/s or higher)

- Experience with PCBA design methodologies including ICT and DFx

- Demonstrated capabilities in electronic design including the use of development and debugging tools

- The capability to prototype and debug new designs, processes, and systems

- The capability to learn existing designs for sustaining engineering tasks 

- Experience developing technical documentation including product specifications, manufacturing documentation, and users manuals

- Familiarity with serial communications standards such as SAS/SATA

- Familiarity with PCI-E generation I and II

- A proven track record of completing projects on-time, within budget, and to specification.

 

Desired Characteristics:

- Experience in developing firmware for a variety of 8, 16, and 32 bit processors in C/C++ and assembly language

- Experience with PICMG Com Express

- Experience with Xilinx FPGA design using Verilog HDL

- Experience with Orcad schematic capture

- Experience with Mentor PCBA simulation tools

- Experience in the design of Point of Load power supplies
