IT Architect
Job Description: Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, the IT Network Architect is responsible for architectural design, development and maintenance of (IT) network for United Rentals internal customer base domestically in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.Essential Duties:• Responsible for the architecture, implementation and support of United Rentals network services to meet ever changing business needs while adhering to industry-standard “Best Practices”. Inclusive of LAN, WAN, Wireless, VOIP, Firewalls, Extranets, and DMZ’s.• Manage the growth and development of network systems.• Analyze, evaluate and make recommendations new technology and trends to solve corporate needs.• Work as part of the UR IT team to further business objectives through the appropriate application of technology.• Manage both internal and external resources and consult business units as necessary to achieve corporate objectives. • Provide technical oversight to all IT endeavors requiring access to United Rentals network infrastructure; including change management process.• Produce and maintain technical documents contributing to the creation of policies and procedures, as well as infrastructure standards and support. • Assist in setting in the direction of processes and deliverables for the enterprise network infrastructure.• Forecast and define business needs, develop solution(s), obtain pricing for budgetJob Requirements: • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and extensive experience engineering and managing large enterprise infrastructures. • Ten+ years of experience in the design, implementation, support and management of WANs, LANs, WLANs, and data center Infrastructure, hosted offerings, disaster recovery and security, in an enterprise level information technology environment• Excellent interpersonal, presentation and communication skills (Teamwork!)• Strong technical ability (See below) • Possess strong analytical skills and an innovative approach to problem solving. • Detail-oriented and extremely well organized with project management skills.• A proven ability to work swiftly, meet deadlines and effectively manage multiple priorities in United Rentals fast paced environment.• Ability to function independently and take initiative while cooperating effectively in a team environment. • Be able to work under pressure and to deadlines and within budgetary constraints.• Ability to understand business needs and leverage the application of technology to meet those needs.Other Skills Required:Firewalls, Routers, Switches, Ethernet, Etherchannel, Frame-Relay, MPLS, ATM, IMA, DSL, Satellite, IPS, IDS, Cisco VOIP, Witness, NetScout, Wireless, QOS, BGP, EIGRP, OSPF, NAT, NSF, SSO, server consolidation, Data Center architecture, Security and DMZ architecture, Extranet connectivity, Disaster recovery, Hosted Services, redundancy at all enterprise levels, CWSI, RMON, Net Flow, MS, Unix/Linux, AS400, TCP/IP, SSL, SQL, SMTP, DNS, Encryption, VPN, WebVPN, IPSec, DLSW, GRE, Intrusion Detection, and/or various network monitoring and security tools.Working Conditions: Ability to lift 35 lbs.
