IT Technical Project Specialist

Job Summary

The IT Technical Project Leader serves as both a project manager and a relationship manager, managing the business and technical aspects of projects in support of our Software Development department, and acting as a projects liason between IT and the Software Development department.

The IT Technical Project Specialist plans, directs and coordinates activities of technology projects to ensure that goals or objectives of projects are accomplished within prescribed time frames and funding parameters. The project teams are composed of a dynamic set of individuals who constantly search for creative ways to elevate the capabilities of technology systems to meet business needs, partly by capitalizing on emerging technologies and partly by adapting technologies to the needs of the business.
ResponsibilitiesActs as a projects liaison between the IT and Software Development teams. Manage issues and escalates to senior management as appropriate. Lead technical discussions throughout the project cycle to ensure deliverables are on track and issues are resolved in a timely manner. Works with IT and Software Development staff to identify and document the technical requirements of projects. Defines resource requirements, budget, project plan and key milestones for multiple join projects between IT and Software Development. Get projects off the ground, keep them on track and on budget, and resolve issues. Monitors, summarizes and communicates progress of projects. Coordinate project activities with the various stakeholders. Ensure easy access to project information that is useful to stakeholders. Work closely with end users, business technologists and others to understand and prioritize business goals and information needs. Provide leadership and motivation to project team members throughout the project life cycle. Lead the effort in creative approaches to problem solving and quality deliverables supporting business needs.
QualificationsBachelor's degree in computer science, engineering or a related discipline with an information technology focus; M.B.A. degree or equivalent related project management experience desirable Six or more years of demonstrated project management experience in IT Infrastructure and Software Development, during which more than one of the following occurred:
*Demonstrated competency in strategic thinking and leadership with strong abilities in relationship management
*Demonstrated leadership of multidiscipline, high-performance work teams/groups
*Successfully managed the design / development and implementation of new technology
*Demonstrated competency in project management and the execution of multiple or large projects Experience working in a dynamic high-technology environment Understanding of current technologies, including Web enterprise servers, Java, JavaScript, HTML, Unix, Windows, Perl, TCP/IP, SQL, Networks and Telecommunications Understanding of the software development process, including requirement gathering, analysis/design, development tools/technologies, release/version control, contemporary testing methodologies and deployment management Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; expertise in setting and managing customer expectations Ability to multitask and manage multiple small to large projects in a cross-functional environment Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate staff and to apply skills and techniques to solve dynamic problems Ability to present and explain technical information in a way that establishes rapport, persuades others and gains understanding Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills Comfortable in the use of Microsoft Project
