Java Team Leader - Insurance Administration System Developer

JOB TITLE                    :            Java Team Leader

  JOB PURPOSE

 

To take an active lead role in the development and support of the Innovation Group’s product portfolio, primarily Property & Casualty Policy and Claims Administration Systems.  The ideal candidate should be highly proficient in the entire application lifecycle from inception and design, through to construction, transition and support.  Strong team lead, iterative development practice experience and Java expertise are expected.  Prior experience in the Property and Casualty industry is beneficial.

 

 

PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES

 Ensure end product is built to client specification.

 Lead the modelling and design of the product.

 Assist with the support of the product.

 Development of new technology solutions in accordance with corporate guidelines and technology platform constraints.

 Custom development as and when required.

 

 EDUCATIONAL/TECHNICAL QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES

HAVE ESSENTIAL SKILLS

 

Proficient using J2EE Java

·         servlets, EJBs, threading, I/O, network programming

·         Leading a development team of 5-10 developers

·         Designing and implementing using OO best practices techniques

·         Experience of iterative development

·         Experience of build systems with automated unit testing

 

Experience of building complex browser based systems with

* working knowledge of JSP

* working knowledge of XML & XSLT

* working knowledge of HTML, Javascript and DHTML

 

 

HAVE DESIRABLE SKILLS

 

Experience in writing JSP custom tag libraries

Database knowledge such as DB/2 UDB, Oracle, SQL Server

UNIX & Windows skills desirable

Application Server knowledge including IBM WebSphere, BEA Weblogic, Tomcat

Knowledge of technologies such as SOAP, WSDL, AJAX desirable

UML Skills

Experience of GOF Patterns (or similar)

Prior experience with Property and Casualty Industry Administration Systems

 

 

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

 

Our work is client focused and the successful candidate will need to travel regularly to client sites throughout North America, typically being on site four days a week during the design phases of the project and less so during build phases.

 

As a part of the introduction to the Innovation Group and our products, the successful candidate will be placed on an internal product development project, requiring three to four months of regular travel to our Corporate Home Office in Whiteley, UK.

 

Though not required, the ability to occasionally travel to India to manage and mentor off shore development teams is valued. Candidates with prior experience in working with or managing off shore teams should highlight their experiences.
