Lead Network Engineer
Title: Lead Network EngineerLocation: Walnut CreekESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The primary responsibility is to provide maintenance and ensure availability of regional computing and networking applications by providing support services for the WAN infrastructure. With some assistance, provide second and third level diagnoses and repairs for cabling problems at all offices and facilities in the region. Work with vendor personnel to achieve timely solution of network problems. Recommend appropriate and necessary level of service to terminals and devices on the network to minimize the impact of outages in the most cost-effective way. Perform installation and relocation of terminals, controllers, and cables. Test and verify newly installed loops and remote data circuits and work with electricians to correct problems. Maintain inventory records of controllers, terminals, patch-cable systems, serial numbers and relevant part numbers, as well as, set-up details. Update documentation as necessary to show terminal reallocations. Ensure that manuals for new equipment are ordered. Provide training to staff on new equipment.Includes planning, design, implementation and maintenance of telecommunications networks, network analysis, engineering and software functions for telecommunications voice and data.Seasoned senior-level professional experience (generally 8 to 10 years) in all aspects of the primary product, program or technology. Incumbents ability encompasses full knowledge required within specialty area. Typically designs and develops approaches that are implemented by others.Is able to function independently with minimal oversight and direction. May instruct and guide lower level technical professionals.JOB SPECIFICATIONS: Qualifications A Bachelors degree, or equivalent experience, in Computer Science or a related discipline, and 6 to 8 years of experience in support of large-scale WAN infrastructure is required. Significant experience in a variety of electronic and telecommunication equipment, include complex system installation and maintenance efforts, and multi-vendor systems experience. Skills Must have the Ability to support large-scale WAN infrastructures, knowledge of computer hardware and communications facilities, and a working knowledge of computer science, communications theory, power distribution, environmental control, electronics, and trouble shooting techniques.
