Lead User Interface Engineer - Human Factors Engineering Job Description The Lead User Interface Engineer will lead and mentor the usability team in analysis, design, implementation and usability verification testing of web-based and desktop applications. The Lead User Interface Engineer understands all aspects of UI design and user experience for enterprise applications as well as consumer products. The Lead User Interface Engineer takes ownership in driving usability feedback and usability results to help improve the product through every stage of the product lifecycle, while effectively managing trade-offs between business needs and customer benefit. The Lead User Interface Engineer's primary responsibilities include:o developing comprehensive usability plans that provide high-level (workflow analysis) and detailed level (interface user testing) research, including administering user research, communicating findings in written and verbal reports, generating action plans, and following up to ensure issues are addressed. Summarize findings, and report results to management and project teams. o presenting usability and UCD related topics internally to groups within the company, such as brown bags.o developing schedules with milestones to ensure analysis, design, implementation and verification deliverables are met.o identifying, prioritizing, and tracking usability issues and make design recommendations. o conducting heuristic evaluations of products when appropriate.o contributing to the design standards and promoting user-centered design throughout the organization. Developing guidelines, standards, usability processes and ensuring that they are fully integrated into the user-centered product development lifecycleo collaborating with members of the usability team, the product development team, sales, customer support and many other disciplines.o creating user interface prototypes for high-profile projects, using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, AJAX.o implementing user interface in close collaboration with the product development team. o developing workflows, user task analysis, personas, interaction flows/information architecture, low fidelity mock-ups, navigational flows, high fidelity prototypes. Qualifications: At least BA/BS in Human Computer Interaction, Usability, Human Factors, Industrial Design, Psychology, Computer Science or related field 7+ years of experience working in interaction design, UI design, and/or usability Articulate design concepts and prototypes, with the ability to define your "vision" for the project in a variety of ways - written, visually and verbally A mastery of web standards, user-centered design principles, knowledge of the software development process. Strong skills in mediating and resolving competing requirements and designs Expert proficiency with design tools: specifically, VISIO, Photoshop, Image Ready, Illustrator, and Dreamweaver. Experience with Axure a plus. Prior experience producing designs that scale across multiple platforms and multiple device form factors Thorough understanding of the limitations and appropriate uses of HTML, DHTML, JavaScript, CSS, AJAX, XSL and Flash. Outstanding presentation and interpersonal communication skills.
