Manager of Library Technical Services

POSITION SUMMARY: 

Responsible for managing library technical services and coordinating library electronic services.  Manage day to day activities of the library in the absence of the Director. Assist with reference services as needed and other duties as assigned.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide the highest quality technical services to the library and the Firm and manage the technical services staff toward this goal in day-to-day operations.

Provide ongoing, daily technical support and trouble-shooting for users of the integrated  library system, including, but not limited to establishing, monitoring and maintaining cataloging standards, providing training and electronic library materials, and advising and identifying research strategies for internal customers.

Train and provide guidance to staff in areas of serials check-in and dissemination, book and serial processing, collection maintenance, acquisitions, cataloging, and data entry. 

Develop and maintain written procedures for technical services.

Responsible for  maintaining the integrity of the integrated library system. 

Assist the Director with the hiring, training, and evaluation of technical services staff.  Supervise technical services staff and make recommendations regarding duties and workflow.

Research and evaluate print and electronic resources for attorney access, collection development, and vendor implementation and improvement.

Maintain vendor relations and assist with negotiating licenses for electronic services.

Ensure quality control of the library’s encumbrances and expenditures.

Supervise contract with outsourced loose-leaf filing service.

Generate technical services statistics and reports on a regular basis.

Electronic Services

Coordinate library network needs and implements electronic subscriptions with the information services department. Serves as the library’s technical contact.

Maintain the day-to-day operations of the integrated library system.

Participate in library training initiatives on electronic resources.

Lead the library staff in the organization and development of content for the library portion of the intranet.

Serve as liaison with IS on library technical issues.

Assistant to the Director

Follow established policies and procedures to maintain daily library operations in the absence of the Library Director.

Other Duties

Other duties as assigned by the Library Director.

Requirements


EDUCATION:

M.L.S. from accredited library school with law library experience strongly preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum 2-3 years experience in library technical services; supervisory experience; knowledge of legal publishing. Familiarity with integrated library systems – EOS web preferred.

SKILLS:

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail required. Demonstrated oral and written communication skills appropriate to the education and experience levels above. Computer and technical proficiency appropriate to the education and experience levels above.

Ability to handle a high volume of detail work with accuracy and efficiency; ability to prioritize, organize, and accomplish multiple time-sensitive tasks. Excellent problem-solving skills.

Customer service orientation; team orientation; dependability; flexibility; and superior interpersonal skills.
