Medical Coder/Auditor

This position is currently TEMP position and runs till current contract end 9/30/08 possibly longer. Provide ambulatory coding support to effectively collect accurate outpatient encounter data, maximize the effectiveness and economy of the Disease Management practices, improve healthcare providers familiarity with coding techniques and provide timely and accurate user-friendly reports to improve management processes and procedures. Codes procedures and diagnoses from patients records using ICD-9, CPT and HCPCS. Assist in the development of programs and plans for orienting and training medical staff in basic coding techniques. Education: RHIA, RHIT, CPC, CCS, CCS-P. High school diploma, 2-3 years experience in coding ambulatory records. Accreditation from a nationally recognized ambulatory coders' accrediting body is highly desired. Required Skills: Proficient knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, pharmacology, surgical and medical procedures sufficient to code for optimum billing. Knowledge of accepted medical abbreviations and their meanings and interpretation. Knowledge in the use of specialized references such as medical nomenclatures, medical dictionaries and texts and medical journals to accurately spell out and use medical terminology. Knowledge of basic computer functionality. Ability to type 35 words per minute and have a working knowledge of MS Office. Desired Skills: Must be able to type 35 wpm.
