NMS Systems/Applications Administrator
JOB SUMMARY
The goal of this position is to maintain and deliver highly available, secure, and predictable performance for all mission critical systems for 24x7x365 network management systems operations. The position also assists in the design, development and deployment of applications, user and security configuration and support, application user security processes and the resolution of day-to-day issues for all network management systems. The environment includes highly reliable, networked, application and database systems in a distributed LINUX environment utilizing storage available through locally attached and network attached storage.
GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Plans and evaluates existing network management systems and makes recommendations for resources required to maintain and/or enhance service levels and systems.
· Proactively ensures security procedures and operating system hot fixes patches and all applicable additions are implemented and enforced as required to provide a secure, stable and efficient computing environment.
· Provides highly skilled technical consultation and assistance to customers and staff in network planning, product engineering and network engineering.
· Designs, builds and maintain network management system architectures. Monitors NMS system performance and conducts required re-engineering of legacy platform.
· Develops procedures for SNMP monitoring systems, reports and processes to ensure system quality. Ensures reliable performance and administration of networked systems through remote applications.
· Identifies potential system problems, recommends solutions, and implements most viable solution.
· Activities will include system and application installation, configuration, integration, maintenance, performance management, data management, security management, failure analysis and recovery, and tier 3 user support.
COMPETENCIES/SPECIFIC EXPERIENCE OR TRAINING PREFERRED:
· Extensive experience in systems scripting (i.e. Perl, awk, sed, Bash, Ruby, PHP etc.), MIBs and SNMP.
· Experience with Splunk, Nagios, NimBUS, NetCool, OpenView and/or other Corporate NMS.
· Experience with administration of SQL Server and MySQL, SQL query language, and stored procedures.
· A solid understanding of NFS, DNS, DHCP, SMTP, IMAP, Apache, Tomcat, PHP, MySQL, MS SQL Server, NIS, LDAP, RADIUS, SNMP and TCP/IP.
· Web development skills in a LAMP environment a plus.
· Ability to perform troubleshooting, problem resolution, analysis and recovery.
· Strong knowledge of RHEL/Centos and/or SUSE/OpenSUSE Linux.
· Ability to provide operational system administration support for LINUX, Solaris and Windows based systems in a high availability, 24x7x365 environment.
· Knowledge of networking fundamentals (i.e. VLANs, Switches, Routers, etc.)
· Familiarity with enterprise backups, clustering, virtualization and high-availability in a Linux environment.
· Ability to monitor alerting systems and servers.
· Provide and receive cross training from immediate support team.

Education and Experience
College, technical school, or experience in computer operations or related coursework & experience in associated IT, telecommunications or networking field.
Education in Computer Science or related field of knowledge.
BS or equivalent, plus at least five years related experience.
Experience in Systems Administration/Data Center Operations 3-5 year
Linux Administration 3+ years
IT Support Operations 2+ years
Project Management Experience 2+ years
Experience in cable and/or telecommunications 2+ years
