NOC Network Control Technician

NOC Network Control Technician Job Code: HTSC04081031   Summary: This position is responsible for proactive monitoring of an Enterprise network. Provides support with installing, troubleshooting and maintaining the network. Works with the recovery group and other support specialists to resolve installation and quality problems. Keeps records of maintenance activities and system performance. In this position, you will work on portions of the network carrying classified information. Operates under the supervision of the NOC Operations Manager or designee.   Responsibilities: Perform network monitoring via Netview and other Network Monitoring Systems (NMS) for network router/switch, IDS/IPS and VPN devices. Create and update Remedy tickets. Report outages to Operations Manager or Designee. Create and update shift report entries. Monitor Netview event browser or similar NMS for up/down node status and SNMP traps and report any issues shift engineers. First line of communication between the Network Operations Center partners and engineers. Perform initial call out to affected sites for down devices. Perform additional tasks as directed by senior personnel.   Job Requirements Education: Associates degree or certification in computer installation and repairs through vocational school or equivalent experience.   Experience: 1-2 years experience with installations and technical support and with LAN/WAN/MAN in performing installations, configuration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of various network and security devices. Previous experience with Cisco and Juniper equipment and practices preferred. CCNA or JNCIA certification preferred. Experience with TCP/IP and Ethernet, especially gigabit Ethernet preferred. Working knowledge of trouble ticketing software (Remedy) and network monitoring solutions (Tivoli NetView, Netcool and CiscoWorks). Previous experience working on DoD bases/sites, including previous military service highly desirable.   Skills: Ability to install software configurations on router and switch, IDS/IPS and VPN devices to verify their performance. Strong communications, writing and editing skills needed to transfer information to individuals involved in the networking process. Strong problem solving and troubleshooting required.
