NetWork Administrator
SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS
The Network Administrator’s role is to mange the day-to-day operations of the computer network. This includes planning, developing, installing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all network hardware, software, and communication links for LAN, WAN, WLAN, VLAN and VPN. This person will also provide networking support for VoIP systems.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Manage day-to-day operations of computer networks
· Assist in identifying, defining and implementing security requirements and standards
· Establish and maintain full network documentation, policies, procedures and associated training plans for network resource administration, appropriate use, and disaster recovery
· Develop and implement system redundancy and disaster recovery
· Perform advanced monitoring, tuning and reporting related to network systems
· Manage security solutions, including firewall, anti-virus, and intrusion detection systems.
· Develop tactical and strategic plans for the network resources based on trends, growth, available metrics, etc.
· Conduct research on network products, services, protocols, and standards in support of network procurement and development efforts.
· Interact and negotiate with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure network products and services.
· Perform server and security audits and ongoing reviews of infrastructure
· Monitor and test network performance and provide network performance statistics and reports.
· Help to ensure 99.999% network availability to all aspects of the network, domestic and international sites.
· Recommend, schedule, and perform network improvements, upgrades, and repairs.
· Assist in the management of other data, server and security systems as dictated by the environment.
· Support management of virtual server environments
· Support special projects and user support requests
· Responsible to help maintain Sarbanes-Oxley 404 compliance
· E-mail/VoIP/Voicemail design, administration and maintenance
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
· Reports to the Director of IT. Supports all levels of the organization.
QUALIFICATIONS
· College degree in Computer Science field and/or 5 years equivalent work experience
· CCNA Certification Required, CCNP a plus, but not required
· Minimum 5 years experience is required with VPN Concentrators, Firewalls, Routers, WLAN, Switches, and Load balancers. Strong hands-on routing knowledge of network/internet protocols/services such as SONET, ATM, Frame-Relay, MPLS, DS3, T1, GigE, OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, DNS, IPSec, and NAT.
· Experience in designing and implementing enterprise security solutions
· Experience with supporting SLAs of 99.999%
· Experience establishing and supporting perimeter networks (DMZ)
· Experience in global network design and implementation is a plus
· Working technical knowledge of current network hardware, protocols, and standards. (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, LDAP, Active Directory)
· Must have the ability to work in a fast paced dynamic and growing IT environment and the flexibility to work with a wide range of technologies.
· Hands-on hardware troubleshooting experience.
· Strong written and oral communication skills.
· Ability to conduct research into networking issues and products as required.
· Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language and strong interpersonal skills.
· Highly self motivated and directed.
· Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
· Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Ability to communicate orally with management and other co-workers is crucial. Regular use of the telephone and e-mail for communication is essential. Sitting for extended periods is common. Hearing and vision within normal ranges is helpful for normal conversations, to receive ordinary information and to prepare or inspect documents.
Heavy lifting is expected up to 50 lbs. Exertion of up to 80 lbs. of force occasionally may be required. Good manual dexterity for the use of common office equipment such as computer terminals, calculator, copiers, and FAX machines.
WORK ENVIRONEMENT
The job is performed indoors in a fast paced office setting. Activities include extended periods of sitting, bending and stooping and extensive work at a computer monitor. This job includes the potential of working irregular hours and the possibility of mandatory on-call availability to troubleshoot problems.
