Network Consultant-LA County

PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The Network Consultant will perform the daily management of the LA County USC Medical Center Hospital's 6000 port network, inclusive of Cisco routers, switches, access points, Call Manager, phones and network monitoring/management tools. . This position is responsible for the installation, modification, testing and servicing on data communications network equipment. Provides connectivity and network support to all network, services, company, and customers. Performs analysis of software, hardware, and network systems for processors, multiplexes, LAN/WAN communications and various transmission systems. Responds to assignments involving the installation, repair, and maintenance of network equipment. Works with vendors and end users to resolve network hardware/software issues. Monitors network performance and maintains network security.
PRIMARY DUTIES:
• Analyze and determine network infrastructure requirements and solutions. Advises on problem solving methods and recommends specific solutions.
• Conducts all phases of information technology projects, such as network design, new technology research, and state-of-the –art network implementation.
• Design, install, configure and deploy network systems, including hardware and software, network management tools, and network operating systems.
• Conducts network performance analysis to identify problems. Works to implement solutions and modifications necessary.
• May act as technical lead on a team, providing direction and planning for other associates assigned to the projects. May provide technical leadership and coaching to other Systems Consultants and Technicians.
• May provide technical expertise in support of sales activities, providing new technology
• Research and state-of-the-art recommended solutions.
• Provides training and initial support to the client on the network systems designs implemented.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
• Associates degree or equivalent technical college coursework in computer science or related technical field
• Minimum 5 years in similar role • Depending on the position, two or more of the following certifications may be required: i. CCNA, CCDA or equivalent knowledge ii. CISSP iii. CISA iv. CISM v. CCNP vi. CCIE vii. CCSP
SKILL AND ABILITY REQUIRMENTS:
• Ability to learn new technologies quickly and integrate them into existing environments

• Ability to plan and direct a team of associates through a specified project to completion
• Ability to provide coaching and leadership to other technical associates
• Technical skills: i. In-depth knowledge of networking protocols and network operating systems, to include: TCP/IP, routing, bridging, T1/E1 frame relay ii. Extensive knowledge of network hardware and tools, and enterprise monitoring software iii. Basic experience with physical network cabling standards: twisted pair, fiber iv. Basic experience with Windows NT, Novell, UNIX, O/S, Excel, Word, email exchange. v. Hands on experience with Cisco routers and Catalyst switches.
• Individual position may require extensive specialized knowledge and certifications in one or more of the following: i. Cisco ii. Voice over IP (VOIP) iii. Avaya iv. Firewalls v. Security vi. Encryption, monitoring, and digital certificate tools vii. VPN viii. Wireless ix. RFID x. LAN/WAN xi. IVR xii. Ethernet
• Ability to present and communicate technical information in clear and concise terms to the client users, summarize project results, deliver training and instructions, and provide problem resolution.
• Ability to establish a long-term relationship with the client, providing customer service and acting in the best interest of the client.
• Ability to analyze thoroughly in order to identify problems and solutions
• Ability to work effectively without regular direct supervision
• Ability to lead a team of Network Consultants to complete customer requirements, and to provide assistance and coaching and additional expertise to the team
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
• 5-7 years industry experience with network engineering and implementation experience
• Experience in a customer service oriented role
