Network Planning Engineer

Network Planning Engineer  Job Code: HTSC03081095   This position is responsible for designing and partnering with customers, vendors, and teammates to design and replace large network infrastructures. Work to ensure that the site network and network management environment is reliable and that performance exceeds that of contracted service levels. Operates under general supervision.  Job Responsibilities Create engineering design documents for BAN/LAN/WAN/MAN. Uses established commercial best practices to develop templates and documentation to improve operational procedures Evaluates and analyzes the network operations center to ensure successful operation of network. Uses established commercial best practice design to develop templates and documentation to improve operation procedures.   Develop multiple alternate designs and analyzes trade-off that trigger iteration of the design process. Responsible for the implementation of engineering process that provide for a timely and appropriate integration of all engineering disciplines to ensure a network system design that meets all requirements including Service Level Agreements. Identifies and evaluates problems. Determines the risk areas and mitigates their impact. Implement and maintain management systems to support fault detection, correlation, performance metrics, and reporting to support service level agreements. Work with the development organizations to test and recommend effective solutions for global network. Participate in the design of extensions and additions to the network and incorporation of new technologies and standards. Design, develop and maintain configuration standards for network equipment. Serve as an escalation point for network issues, including backbone routing, customer router configuration, and Internet related services. Provide leadership and guidance to technicians with implementation and maintenance of the network.  Education Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering, or Computer Science. Strong non-degree candidates with advanced industry experience will also be considered.  Experience Minimum 5 years experience that includes network design, operational support, hands-on implementing and configuration of network devices such as servers, routers, hubs, switches, NICs, associated software tools, desktop computers, and cabling in a large LAN/MAN/WAN environment.   As well as knowledge of TCP/IP protocols. Experience with secure networks, specifically Intel Community standards. Knowledge of Fast Switched Ethernet, GigE, OSPF, BGP, and ATM is necessary.  Other Skills Good communications, writing and editing skills needed to transfer information to individuals involved in the networking process. Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
