View all Sungard Availability Services jobs Oracle DBA / GS4752 Position Description:This position can also be based in Philadelphia, PA or Charlotte, NC. • Perform Tier 2 & 3 troubleshooting and support for complex issues.• Provide vendor troubleshooting management. • Provide escalated implementation support.• Create and update technical documentation, as required.• Provide technical training, as needed.• Work strategic and other internal projects, as assigned.• Handle normal recurring operations tasks with little direct supervision and lead special projects under the direction of DBA manager.• Manage multiple Oracle Server instances across various networks within various configurations.• Serve as a subject matter expert regarding optimal physical database design and Oracle Server configurations best suited for a given server environment. • Assist Sales with providing technical answers to the questions of prospective customers.• Interface with customers about issues relating to their Oracle DB Server instance.• Maintain a high level of customer service.• Assist team in supporting all Oracle database managed customers. These tasks would include installations, configurations, performance, backup & recovery, and daily database operational tasks.• Assist in the technical evaluation of new database versions and features.• Install and configure Oracle software for currently supported releases.• Responsible for database patching, upgrades, and support activity including off hour support when required.• Troubleshoot all database availability and connectivity problems with little guidance• Develop and install cost effective, operationally supportable solutions that meet complex customer requirements and SLAs• Escalate issues to management as needed, and support SunGard’s SLA commitments to its customers.• Responsible for the planning, implementing, and execution of Oracle database backups and disaster recovery scenarios.• Write complex database scripts.• Write scripts in the operating system’s native scripting language. • Able to schedule multiple assigned tasks efficiently with little assistance from management.• Design creative and supportable technical solutions to challenging problems, as needed.• Write thorough technical change plans, as needed.• Write comprehensive technical procedure documentation, as needed.• Setup and maintain documents and standards as required for position.• Work strategic and other internal projects, as assigned.• Provide accurate and timely documentation of work progress and resolution within trouble ticket tracking system.• Ensure successful resolution of work within established completion time guidelines with high quality of service.• Work closely with all operational groups to insure compliance with all corporate adopted system standards and directions.• Perform other duties, as assigned.Qualifications:• College Degree preferred but will consider applicants with equivalent work-related experience with a minimum educational requirement of a H.S. Diploma or GED equivalent• Bachelor’s degree, engineering or scientific major preferred, or industry recognized certification or equivalent strong work experience.• 5 to 7 years Oracle DBA experience. • Experience with Oracle 9i and 10G required.• Experience with Oracle 10G RAC an extreme plus.• Proficiency with most database commands and utilities and use of SQL and PL/SQL at the command line.• Experience with Oracle technologies involving RAC, RMAN and /or Data Guard an extreme plus.• Experience with Quest’s SharePlex with Oracle an extreme plus.• Working knowledge of Oracle in a UNIX and other supported operating systems, including writing basic scripts in the operating system’s native scripting language.• Familiarity with basic concepts of logical and physical database design.• Basic working knowledge of “universal” scripting languages such as Perl, Tcl, or Python preferred.• Experience or knowledge of SAP and Oracle e-Business Suite highly desired• Understanding of and an ability to implement, internal system standards, procedures and services.• Strong working knowledge of project management and time management techniques needed to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple workloads and projects with minimal supervision.• Excellent oral and written communication skills.• Minimal travel required.• Oracle Database 9i/10g Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) certification preferred.Additional Requirements:• Strong customer-service focus.• Good analytical and problem-solving skills.• Sound judgment and use of initiative.• Good writing and verbal communications skills.• Ability to continue education and maintain industry certifications, as applicable.• Ability to function effectively as part of a team and to interface successfully with all areas of the SunGard organization.• Ability to achieve a U.S. Government Security Clearance and/or clear a background investigation where required.• Ability to work the assigned shift, including nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call rotation, as required.• Ability to function successfully in a highly stressful, 24x7 mission critical environment.SUNGARD IS AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER, M/F/D/V
