Platform Engineer

Job ID: 140965Position Description: We have an existing need for a Unix Systems Engineer. This resource will support compliance associated with technical architecture standards within the Network Information System ('NIS') Platform team. The resource will be required to perform requirements and impact analyses on existing systems and implement requirements drafted by the systems engineers and platform architects. The resource must be able to apply in-depth understanding of Sun Solaris environment and associated products to create the detailed design which includes hardware configuration, network elements, SAN assignment, and power distribution requirements (PDR). Essential Job Functions:The candidate must be able to communicate effectively with architects, engineers and datacenter staff to successfully implement the detailed design. This resource will ensure compliance associated with technical architecture standards within NIS Platform Management. The resource will help support the national data centers by researching and documenting requirements to put hardware into the data centers. The following tasks will be included in the responsibilities:? Perform requirements and impact analysis on existing systems. ? Implement requirements drafted by the systems engineers and platform architects. ? Assist the project teams in translating requirements into detailed technical design, estimating resources, costs, timeframes, etc. ? Create detailed design documentation including hardware configuration, network elements, SAN assignment, and power distribution requirements (PDR). ? Interact directly with SUN representatives to obtain and review quotes. ? Apply in-depth understanding of Sun Solaris environments and associated products. ? Communicate effectively with architects, engineers and datacenter staff such that technicians can successfully implement the detailed design.Qualifications:Required Skills And Experience:? Recent experience with current Sun hardware line including X86 architecture? Solaris operating system experience? Excellent understating of Sun Microsystems hardware and interaction with EMC & HDS arrays.? Experience with advanced System Administration tasks? Ability to write clear documentation and review documentation? Ability to perform QA work requiring attention to details. ? Experience with Network and SAN Topologies and Theory of Operation. ? Understanding of SAN concepts and terms (configuration experience a bonus)? Knowledge of intermediate networking concepts ? Experience as a Field Engineer working with Sun Departmental and Enterprise class Product Line (Servers, Storage, NAS, and SAN)(nice to have but not a requirement).Desired Knowledge, Education And Certifications:? Solaris Certification? Working knowledge of LAN/WAN topology.? Working knowledge of Access, SQL, or Oracle ?
