Principal Systems Engineer / Network Management

 

Position Summary

 

Performs projects and project management activities with instructions as to the general results expected, receives technical guidance as needed on complex problems and development projects.

 

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

Performs projects and project management activities with instructions as to the general results expected, receives technical guidance as needed on complex problems and development projects in the following efforts:

·Defining requirements for SONET/SDH telecommunications management systems as well as Layer 2/2.5 packet switching management systems,

· Defining system architecture including evaluation of enabling technologies, both hardware and software

· Performing and assist in validation testing activities,

·Developing technical documentation in support of product development and release,

· Planning and directing advanced, innovative technical projects

· Pursuing new technology for the company

· Acting as role model and mentor to company’s technical community

 

 Skills

 

Experience in a product definition and development role with solid skills in:

· Project leadership,

· OOA, OOD, OOP methodologies,

· Network management applications/standards (ITU, TMN, OSI/CMIP/GDMO, SNMP),

·SONET/SDH systems, including Add/Drop Muxes and Broadband Digital Cross-Connects. 

· Packet switching technologies, platforms and network architectures, especially for Ethernet, ATM, Frame Relay technologies

· Layer 2 and Layer 2.5 networking technologies and protocols (MPLS, RSVP, OSPF, LDP)

· Network Convergence concepts and industry trends

· “Triple Play” applications and supporting architectures
