Program Project Manager

SUMMARY:

 

The Program / Project Manager (PM) is responsible for managing IT projects and sets of projects.  The PM develops project plans, forms project teams, assigns tasks to team members, tracks team member progress, conducts team members, and resolves project issues.  If projects require outside services, the PM is responsible for conducting searches and selecting appropriate contractors.  The PM is responsible for ensuring that projects complete on-time and within budget.  The PM provides status updates to project sponsors, IT management, and other interested parties.  The PM may prepare and present business cases for conducting projects, including developing ROI analysis.  In a program management capacity, this position ensures that inter-related, inter-dependent projects are aligned and facilitates communications and synchronization of activities among these projects.  The PM reports to the Sr. Director Information Systems and Technology, but may be assigned to projects under direction of the IT manager or other individuals as specified by the Sr. Director Information Systems and Technology.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

Ø Develops Memoranda of Agreement detailing project objectives, scope, approach, timing, resources and major deliverables.  These memoranda establish an agreement between IT and the project sponsor.

Ø Develops business cases for projects meeting SE/NY Mets criteria.

Ø Prepares Requests for Proposals for contracted products and services.

Ø Identifies resources needed and works with project sponsors and others as appropriate to assign individuals and their associated responsibilities.

 

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

 

Ø Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field or equivalent relevant experience.

Ø Three years experience in project management of application development efforts required.

Ø Two years experience in related industry preferred.

Ø Strong knowledge of Microsoft Project or other project management software required.

Ø Strong knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio required.

Ø Understands Internet, Intranet, Extranet and client/server architectures.

Ø Strong analytical and problem solving skills

Ø Excellent oral and written communication skills

Ø Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
