Programmer/Analyst (Cache/Mumps Experience Preferred)

Programmer/Analyst 

 

 

GENERAL OVERVIEW

 

Acts under supervision of the Team Leader to assist with the maintenance/technical development of complex, large scale systems.  Programs and assists with the development of integrated full function hospital information systems in Cache programming language.  Works with users and management in the analysis of system design and function. Participates in all phases of software lifecycle development, particularly in the analysis and design of technical specifications, coding, testing and implementation.

 

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Provides first line support for a range of hospital administrative applications, including participation in off hours on call rotation.

 

As assigned, designs, codes, tests and debugs the software necessary to maintain the systems.

 

Develops and reports project plan, specifications, schedules, technical parameters to management.

 

Confers with IS analysts and hospital administrative personnel to negotiate the detailed specifications for a system, such as report formats, screen displays and work flow.

 

Studies current systems or develops new systems and procedures to implement the desired system.

 

Writes and maintains detailed internal documentation on systems. 

 

Trains department representative, such as a supervisor or department head in how to use their system.

 

Trains and provides documentation for operations to run batch jobs needed by the system.

 

Has responsibility for the security of medical and financial confidential information.

 

Acts as a technical resource to other team members.

 

Performs all other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Bachelor’s degree in a computer/engineering field or equivalent experience required;

Prior experience in a programmer/analyst position preferred;

Background in a health care field with technical/computer emphasis considered.

 

 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

 

Two or more years of Cache programming or similar healthcare experience required.  Experience in an equivalent technology in a healthcare setting also considered.

 

Excellent oral and written communication skills.  Ability to negotiate and/or communicate with all levels of staff including senior management.

 

Demonstrated statistical/analytic and reasoning skills to perform high level of problem solving.

 

Ability to assume a high level of authority and responsibility.

 

Ability to work under stress, due to frequent deadlines and unanticipated scope changes.

 

Has a thorough understanding of application development, including analysis, coding, testing, and project life cycle methodologies.
