Under the general direction of the management team and senior staff, the programmer - senior position will be responsible for providing proficient programming services, defining technical requirements, developing and/or maintaining computer applications/systems, and providing services to meet client IT and business needs. This position may be responsible for supervising/directing three to five technical team members. The ideal candidate typically has completed a four-year academic degree including courses in computer programming, systems analysis, system development, or systems engineering OR has acquired core IT skills and knowledge via practical experience. This person will proficiently apply IT methods, professional knowledge, and UPMC standards and practices. Additionally, this person must intuitively grasp familiar, stable system performance situations and be able to respond to unfamiliar, undefined, unexpected, or unstable situations with the professionally prescribed standard response. This position must be able to recognize subtle problems with system design or performance and act appropriately to improve the condition, seeking validation of actions in advance as appropriate. This person must also be effective in relationships with business partners, professional peers, and other team members and will coach less experienced IT professionals. Strong EDI experience including HIPAA transaction sets, relational database programming (SQL Server or equivalent), and someone who is a self-starter with strong analytics skills is highly desired.
